Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
    Guest Host Robert Horton

In the golden age of science fiction, critics wrote about a "sense of wonder." That's what The Empire Strikes Back creates in us. The mythic story elements in the Star Wars trilogy are as deep and universal as storytelling itself. This movie is expertly crafted, both in terms of a narrative and literal context. From beginning to end it is darker, fiercer, and more powerful than the original film, which is not an easy feat. Twenty-four years after its initial release, The Empire Strikes Back is still as engaging as ever. None of the other installments of the Star Wars saga can match the narrative scope of Empire, which today remains one of the best science fiction tales ever filmed.

Robert Horton is the Seattle area's top film critic. He presently reviews film for the Herald in Everett, KUOW FM, and has written for Newsday, Amazon.com, the Village Voice, and the Chicago Reader.
