Despite his actual socialism (as opposed to Bernie's socialism, which is self-professed and astonishingly not actually socialist) and pacifism, Jesus was indeed a fan of wealth accumulation and owning firearms to defend one's home. [face_flag]

Yeaaah, I mean that really sucks and is terrible for the kid, but I read about that story when he was first arrested. It's just... I can't feel nearly as sorry for the schmuck as I do for other people who are really unjustly arrested overseas for BS reasons (like journalists in Iran being accused of being spies for no reason). This is one of the few cases where I read it and thought, "Man, this is completely on you."

He thought it would be funny to steal propaganda. From North Korea. If that doesn't argue for the abolishment of frats, I don't know what does. They are cesspools and idiot factories, and nothing else. There's a good reason I went to a school that didn't allow frats or sororities.

This was an entirely predictable and avoidable outcome. It really, really sucks... but I honestly have little sympathy here. He gave them a free anti-American propaganda tool that they didn't even have to fabricate as usual. What a moron.

It's kind of amazing as to how hungry a section of the U.S. population is for fascist rule.

I can't post this in the election thread because as Boyle shares my antipathy for this US his genuine outrage at that **** country will be brushed off as schtick, because deep down everyone must love America.

    http://www.theguardian.com/commenti...t-televangelist-clinton-sanders-frankie-boyle

"In this tumultuous US election there seems, for once, to be a genuine choice on offer about which kind of ideas will spend four years being thwarted in a congressional logjam. This year’s race has already spawned thousands of newspaper articles and even a Book of Revelation. It’s actually hard to find a clip of Donald Trump’s campaign that doesn’t look like a RoboCop insert. Then again, saying that a US election is particularly ridiculous is a bit like saying that Towie has jumped the shark. Unfortunately, even the most horrified coverage of this depraved contest assumes that it’s the election that’s the problem and not the society that produces it."

    Ha! Such schtick!

There's so many brilliant lines, but this has to be my favourite:

"And who knows, if Trump’s supporters are using their eight-fingered fists to make banners and red hats rather than drunkenly beating their kid into a coma that they won’t let a black doctor treat, maybe that’s a good thing."

Again, statistically most Americans don't like Trump and US news sources tend to wonder openly, and be consistently baffled by, the terrible segments of society that back him. They also acknowledge that part of this is a societal problem, that poor white men feel threatened by them losing supremacy and money and they're lashing out. That this is compounded by stupid celebrity culture and the fact that idiots know him from some reality show. This is not remotely lost on US news sources or most Americans. There is literally daily discussion of why Trump has been fueled and why certain groups are backing him the more and more horrible he is.

But welcome to observations from six months ago, Guardian :p

In this thread, Ender assumes person who regularly watches 8 out of 10 Cats, HIGNFY, Mock the Week, and Never Mind the Buzzcocks (RIP) doesn't know who Frankie Boyle is :p

I read the article dude. I just expect something from a Frankie Boyle Guardian commentary that hasn't regularly been discussed on CNN every day for over 6 months. Disappointing.

You get no points here sj.

    1. CNN? What, you prefer their fonts to FOXNews' fonts?
    2. You still hold citizenship in the worst country and don't emigrate.

I also doubt CNN managed a comparable level of underwhelmed hate for Hillary

See amazingly I actually flip through the American news channels because I'd like to know what they're saying and what other Americans are watching. I use CNN as an example because it's not great and even they have made the points Frankie is making. I expect more from him. At least we have John Oliver and Stephen Colbert (my personal hero) making a bit more original jokes about the election. Frankie can do better is all.

And secondly.... As I mentioned in some thread last fall, the BBC and Al Jazeera, while still my first looks for written media, both cut off their streams to the US in the fall :( I used to watch daily.

And I considered going to the UK for Uni and trying to emigrate that way, but ultimately didn't (though I had the IB scores to get in to Oxford and they sent me material unsolicited) solely because my grandma here would have freaked out and possibly died if I'd been that far away.
