Well, this is insane. Congress overrode the President's veto of the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act. Like, massively overrode the veto. 97-1 in the Senate, and a pretty large margin in the House too. Republicans, Democrats, all lined up in an act of stunning political cowardice and idiocy, lest any of them be tarred with the "did not support 9/11 families!" label in an election year.

Let's look at what the law does, shall we?

    Insane. Utterly, massively, insane.
There goes any immunity the United States enjoyed from anything, ever. We can look forward to seeing Bush, Obama, and pretty much every U.S. president ever be subject to lawsuits in every country -- along with every U.S. soldier, official, and any person doing anything everywhere.
Good job. The bill's advocates argue that it only applies in case of states abetting acts of terrorism, excludes acts of war, blah blah blah -- it's stupid. Chipping away at sovereign immunity is going to cause retaliation. What the hell does a civil suit do, anyway?

It's OK Trump will personally pay any legal defence costs which may be incurred by US citizens as a result of this legislation. Trust him.

Yes but your country is full of idiots, Jello, and it's run by morons. You aren't, surely, surprised by this.

Maybe the United States Rapist Corps might think twice before raping with impunity?

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/sep/28/senate-obama-veto-september-11-bill-saudi-arabia

"Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate judiciary committee, said the families of 9/11 victims favoured the measure and accused Obama of bowing to Saudi pressure. “All they want is the opportunity to present their case in a court of law,” he said on the Senate floor. “And that’s what this legislation would give them"

Oh surprising! Someone called "Chuck" did something stupid? No. Can't be.

Here's fun news though: Philippines' crass leader wants to suspend joint US/Philippines military drills.

Take that, OBAMA! You son of a whore (lol, that's not meant as an insult!)

I wish that the United States wouldn't act as some sort of exception to comity. We were a lot more humble about it when we were a developing power, and I fear that we risk jeopardizing the international order by doing so -- if the world superpower can go rogue, it gives everyone else justification too. Foolish notion.

Do Americans really wear shoes inside, or is that only in movies?

And here I was hoping that I was wrong. Wearing shoes inside, that's just plain uncilivilised. Even Norwegians take their shoes off inside, and these guys used to be marauding rapists, WTF?!

According to someone on the boards, all men are essentially rapists. Doing his country proud.

I do not wear shoes in the house, and I am American. That will just ruin your carpets.

I suspect you also don't say statements that make me judge the **** out of you like:

    "I did good today"
"I just spit out my drink"

    etc

Explain to me why your country cannot speak it then; and why they're so emphatic other non-English speakers speak it to them?

It's preferable to live in a dwelling without carpets, as to avoid such an issue, for there are certain occasions where it's (wearing shoes indoors) necessary. :p
