So all that stuff about modified genes potentially spreading out into the native population...that's not something to be concerned about?

Careful Tunes, given how some baseball games have lasted in the last few years, you might give Ender more ammo for not taking the Great American Pastime seriously.

I don't take it seriously, Juliet. When it comes to playing sport, I'm reasonably sure nothing is more terrible than the American past times. In fact, between NASCAR, Indycar, Wrestling, Baseball, the bum-fondling football code you play... yeah, you're plagued with **** sports.

George Carlin had a wonderful bit about what constitutes as a sport and what doesn't. I think he said that only running should be considered and nothing else.

His schtick opinion about it won't change how I feel about the sport.

It's actually not a schtick. I genuinely think your sports were designed by fourth graders. They're just awful.

Regardless, no dissenting opinion will ever stop me from loving baseball; I've passed the point of being annoyed by your disposotion, schtick or not. :p

If the modified genes did any actual harm, then it would be something to worry about. The thing is that most of them do not do any harm and many modifications to plant genomes have proven beneficial in the past. The human race has been planting, growing, and eating GMOs for thousands of years, just because the process is different doesn't mean that we'll have fruits and veggies with fangs and appetites for human blood.

I would think that simple prudence would dictate that we shouldn't tinker around with nature in such an irreversible way. Sure, nothing's gone wrong...yet. But if something does, there's no way we can go out and undo the damage. I'm not sure what you mean by humans growing GMOs for thousands of years...because if you mean selective breeding then that's just taking nature's existing and proven coding and picking the traits we want to accentuate, while with genetic engineering we're taking say, fish genes and putting them into corn...and I would imagine there's a good deal more unpredictability with the latter. We won't end up with killer man-eating tomatoes, but if engineered genes spread into natural plant populations then we could end up with the "super-plant" scenario where the species with the engineered genes starts to out-compete and wipe out other species.

Did you, by chance, happen to consume some mushrooms this evening?

But baseball players chew cow poop and spit it out and jog around to rectangular platforms.

I hadn't followed this thread for a long time. Being the treasure trove that it is, I decided to kill some boredom by reading up to jour. (Is that an existing phrase, or did I just invent a BS figure of speech? [face_thinking] )

Football combines the two worst things about America: it is violence punctuated by committee meetings.

Do you like it because is so homoerotic? Or because it requires less skill to play than rugby?

There's nothing wrong with homoeroticism... it's pretty awesome, actually.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it. I assume that the reason sexually repressed America loves it's football is because it's an outlet for their repressed feelings.

The fact that they throw the ball forward don't try to move a line down like in rugby is precisely what makes it a dumber and less tactical game. :)

Well, we also don't have a huge reach-around circle in a scrum which also has benefits... but it doesn't explain why you like some homoeroticism and not some other...
