I just joined up yesterday. I still have to get a good shot of me in my Jedi costume though.

I'm still computer-less so I don't have the ability to put any patch-designs together at the moment (will be solved in a few months when I get that computer from michael though, and we have plenty of time for this before C3 comes around), but that one you mentioned sounds really cool Jen (don't know what mountain that is though) ;)

I'm also very unskilled when it comes to the fabric and painting areas, so I'm gonna need some help from the group when it comes time for those things.

Jen: on those under-helmet things, is one a Large? If so I'd take that one off your hands if you want (I got a big noggin).

by the way, I'll probably stop by the Army Surplus store on academy tomorrow, so if anyone wants me to look for something in any size, just let me know. I'm planning on getting some black and olive-drab BDU pants while I'm there if they got my size.

The auctions should be closed by the time we do our surplus shopping trip next week. But there was a AN-H-14 Flight helmet w/ avionics up for bid, but it was going for about $30 so far. I decided to wait and see on that one. And I think there was a Russian tank helmet that would work too (& I think that was a large). The ones I'm bidding on are a small and a medium. The small I'm bidding on for the 2 pairs of goggles included, and to see if we might be able to make our own cloth helmet pieces.

Saturday. Up north where Jeff & Mikey are. Jeff is going to help us come up w/ our gadgets. So, should we be a strict recan team or should we have more of a special forces bent?

Umm, I dunno, what would the difference be? What do you prefer?

What time are you planning on doing it Saturday? Just let me know so I can screw up my sleep schedule so I'm not too tired when we go ;). Also, are we meeting at someone's house then going, and are we doing some sort of workshop, or just the shopping part?

I think we're just looking around to see what they have that we can use. Maybe pick up a couple of things. It looks like we're doing a workshop for this month's meeting though.

If you want you can meet me here at my place and I'll drive up to Mikey's from here (I want to see the puppies).

I was talking to Cory and he's convinced me... I guess I am in. :D

And as for the lab coats/ dusters. Those are so easy to make. About three yards of a heavy twill which is about $3 a yard, sponge dye it and it is all done!

early morning doesn't work well for me...I get off work at 8, and that's usually when I get sleep is right after work...and I'd just about have to leave for denver RIGHT after work...hmm. I may be able to work it out...

If you already got something doing that day, wouldn't it be easier to just schedule it on a different day (Like NEXT saturday...which I'll have off ALL day with a semi-normal sleep schedule by then?)

JGoC - Lab Coats, try the Goodwill etc., you can pick one up for like $2-5, that's what I did for A&P class (back when I had the delusion that a 30+ year old person could make it through med-school). The ponchos work great too. I'm getting mine set up now, since a found a piece of cotton (that looks kind of like a chamois) for $2.50 @ Denver Fabrics. I figure we can have a dye party once we have everyone's stuff together.

Also, I'm glad we have another fruitcake for our little band. Remember to fashion your costume accessories in the model of your chosen position. I'm thinking demos, or medic.

JD - Talk to Chunk & DH, if they want to push it back another weekend I don't have a problem. Saturdays are my only free day for the next month, so I'm open to anything.

nah, on second thought, just do it when you guys want to. but do me a favor and keep an eye out for stuff I could use while you're looking. I'll just see what kind of recon I can do down here in the springs.

what kind of accsessory differences are you talking between them Jen?

Demo would have some "devices" & "explosives" toys, Sniper's would have special glasses and a long range weapon. Heavy Weapons would have bandoliers. Engineers would have some neat "tools". You know that kind of thing. You & Sarah are our military experts. What are commando squads typically made up of?

Ummm... well I know from reading the x-wing books that there is usually an intelligence officer in the group, demo, medic/some other role(it was combined sometimes, they would give a guy infield emt training), snipers, communications, and then any other specialties they would need. I would think since we would be a mountain division maybe an engineer to deal with building bridges chopping trees and other stuff like that. Then of course we would need a leader...

Ok I found a list of what the army rangers are made out of.

    (11B) Infantryman
    (11C) Indirect Fire Infantryman
    (11Z) Infantry Senior Sergeant
    (13F) Fire Support Specialist
    (18D) Special Forces Medical Sergeant
    (31C) Radio Operator-Maintainer
    (31U) Signal Support Systems Specialist
    (31Z) Senior Signal Sergeant
(35E) Radio and Communications Security Repairer
    (54B) Chemical Operations Specialist
    (63B) Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic
    (71D) Legal Specialist
    (71L) Administrative Specialist
    (71M) Chaplain Assistant
    (73D) Accounting Specialist
    (74C) Telecommunications Operator/Maintainer
    (75B) Personnel Administration Specialist
    (75H) Personnel Services Specialist
    (88N) Traffic Management Coordinator
    (91B) Medical Specialist
    (92A) Automated Logistical Specialist
    (92G) Food Service Operations Specialist
    (92Y) Unit Supply Specialist
    (96B) Intelligence Analyst
    (96D) Imagery Analyst
    (97B) Counterintelligence Agent

And it is obvious that not all of these guys go out into the field either...

We don't have to get to specific to soon, if at all 'cause I'm sure DH and I would have no problem equipping us to go as a couple of different types of groups. :D

Edit-BTW, I know where to get lab coats in quantity, but they're $20-$30 bucks a pop.

I actually already have a pattern and fabric to make a lab coat. But that was because it was to be used for painting. I am always the one that gets paint on my elbow. :D But then the ponchos work too don't they? Then I have camo pants and desert camo pants too. Now all I need is a shirt right?

We're looking to dye everything w/ our own camo pattern, so OD or khaki works best for pants.

Sarah, I'll email you the pix I have of the troopers. Take a look at the overshirt and let me know about a pattern. I think my Mom can swing something, but it would be nice to have another opinion.

Terry-Yeah, $20-30 bucks for something you're going to destroy is why I went looking around in the thrift stores. My sister is going to some big sale this weekend, so she is going to keep an eye out for them for me (she is the bargain queen).

Just found the new pix of the Endor Rebel Trooper 2 from Hasbro.

When all is said & done, I will be asking Josh to work up a "me" version of this figure, you can bet on it.

Jen- I'll stop at wal-mart & try to pick one up on my way home today. I think the target exclusive figures that came out recently included a rebel trooper with lots of accessories. the one you linked to above has a removeable helmet (thank god) and vest, so I bet we could come up with a really cool fig, even I never find the target ones.

my customizing has been put on the back burner lately cause I've got a lot going on- but I would be happy to make you one -as soon as I get it together & finish the sith 2 pack.
(SC,DH- I'm sooooo close to being done. I swear.)

No worries, I wanted to wait until I get my costume tricked out anyway. That way it will match what I have. That would be very cool.

Also, make sure you let me know when you have time to run off those 35mm shots.

I just thought of something that would be really neat to do once we have all this finished! Go camping! Wear the gear and take pictures of it too :D
