I just finished this one and I enjoyed it much more than Dark Journey. Things were actually going fairly well for 'the good guys' in this one, rather than the same old pattern of being decimated by the yuuzhan vong. And Jaina finally figures out what to do with herself.

 

It's been a while since I read this, but I remember that it was good. Out of all the NJO books, this had the BEST ENDING EVER!!!

 

9 out of 10. I Really liked this book. After the terrible events that occured in Star By Star, it was nice to kinda see the NR turn around and give the Vong a black eye in return. Did a great job with General Antilles IMHO.

 

I very much enjoyed this book. It gave a good balance of humor without destroying the tension. SbS was heavy. We needed a chance to get our bearings back after that punch to the stomach and this worked very well, IMHO.

 

The hits keep on coming! I love the authors of NJO!

Like I'd said in another post, I was expecting, maybe even hoping for a couple of books to let my guard down a little with after Star by Star, but oh no. Still tense, still emotional.

 

Heres an odd thing....

A HIT FOR ALLSTON !!!

Without a doubt, he is the worst author to be allowed the honor of dabbeling in the SW universe and finally after several tries he churns out a winner. Took long enough. I'm bites though he could not continue this kind of writing in the sequal. This book rates a 9. Allston should have retired here

 

Aaron Allston?s earlier Star Wars novels were always jam-packed with action and the novels of Enemy Lines ? Rebel Dream and Rebel Stand ? are no exception. With vividly detailed descriptions, the reader finds his/herself smack-dab in the middle of a space battle or hiding in the forests and rubble that are now all that is left of Coruscant. Allston doesn?t just write Star Wars, he creates it around you, leaving you with the impression that you are right there standing beside your favorite heroes in a quest for good over evil. The reader finds his/herself drawn in and unable to put the books down until the tale?s resolution.

There?s something for every type of Star Wars fan in the novels of Enemy Lines. There are raging space battles, fabulous dogfights, Jedi battles, romance, witty banter, undercover missions, spies to be rooted out. Anything you would expect from a Star Wars novel and more. One of the most exciting and tide-turning adventures within The New Jedi Order Series, Enemy Lines is on series not to be missed!

 

I absolutly loved this one...Jaina and Jag, Kyp's realization, the battle scenes...and Wedge...and the Insiders...loved it.

 

So far, Allston's portrayal of the galaxy has hit closest to home for me. Troy Denning did well in Star By Star, but most of NJO has seemed so far detached from the rest of the expanded universe; it's hard imagining the events taking place in the same galaxy. But, I feel that Aaron Allston tied the two together and everything was really familiar. He's got a knack for writing in the space battles, which makes sense what with his involvement with the X-Wing series.

I couldn't find the Enemy Lines dualogy for the longest time, so I gave up on reading NJO for a while. I then bought the Joiner King, figuring that I knew most of what happened in NJO anyways, and that I wouldn't be missing out on much. These books sucked me back into the series, while I felt that some of the previous books (Agents of Chaos, anyone?) were a bit more gruelling.

But with that said, I'm excited for Allston's work in the Legacy era!

 

I give this a 9, because it wasn't perfect, but then what is? Allston has a firm grip on the characters, such as Wedge's rebuke of the self-styled CoS Pwoe and the use of 'side characters' to keep the actin moving. Allston is among, if not my favorite EU writer, and he continues his knack for excellence with this work.

 

My sister loved this book. Mostly she loved the J/J parts of it. She's a full J/Jer.

Another winner by Allston. Wedge is da man, and the rebel attitude is exactly what I needed to see at this point in the NJO saga. Jaina gets ahold of herself to focus on the greater good (for the most part), Luke starts taking charge, and it seems as if the Force is finally with us for once. This book was a blast.

 

10/10 loved this book! can't wait for Betrayal!

 

I must respectfully disagree with a previous poster in his/her assertion that Allston is the worst GFFA writer ever. I was enthralled in the Wraith Squardon saga, which made me really look forward to the Enemy Lines duology. Allston brought humor back to the far away galaxy, something which had been missing for years.

Plus, AA is the EU authority on Wedge. For a character that saw very little extended play in the movies, Michael Stackpole, and, IMHO, Allston brought him to life on the page. Congrat to both...

It's been a while since I've read any of Aaron Allston's books, though I did recently get to see his Clone Wars shorts. I didn't realize until now that I really missed the guy. After Star by Star, he takes the NJO in a different, lighter, more pulpy direction. It feels much like the high adventure of the original movie and I loved it. With these books, Mr. Allston shows that he can write not only his original characters well, but our established heroes as well. It's refreshing, it's fun, and though this book does feel quite a bit like setup for the next (but what first part of a series doesn't?) it's still a good deal enjoyable with pulse-racing action, humor, and romance. And as the site's review notes, it's great that he doesn't tell us all about what's to come. I wondered what the "YV getting to fight the Empire" would entail and getting to see what our former Rogues meant by that was one of the book's many highlights.

Great book from start to finish. 9/10
