Padme Amidala Ep. 3 "Peacock Dress"

Thanks everyone! It's going to become one huge labor of love. I'm already sick of fiber etching the velvet and only I've done one and half pieces.

Jaina-LOL It's a 80 gallon pot and about 18 inches tall. It just barely fits on my mom's stove. There's about 6 inches of room between the pot and the overhead light on the stove.

A-Tastic-Thanks for the tip on the dredlocks. I'll have to try it out. I had order some pre-made dredlocks, but I wasn't too happy with them.

Princess of Theed- I did notice that about the teal color of the backing of velvet. In fact my velvet turned out almost perfectly the same color. The only thing that worries me is that now it won't match my underdress too well since my underdress is more of a blue color, but it's too late change now.

Another thing along the lines of the velvet, are the little dark matalic spots that are part of the fabric. There is a pattern repeat to them, but they don't match up to the pattern repeat of the peacock eye burnout. Either the fabric come with them in the first place and Trisha Biggar's team burnout the peacock eye pattern over the spots themselves or somehow they added the spots themselves afterwards to the burnout fabric. Another mystery we'll probably never solve.

I forgot to mention the dots. thanks for adding that! very interesting. LOL just one more thing to complicate this costume.

Here are photos of my finish Peacock Dress!! After 14 months of embroidery, pleating, fibre etching, pulling my hair out, and going insane, its done!! They're not the greatest photos; with all the different colors in the fabrics it didn't want to photograph well. The color is the best in the detail shots.

I am in awe. That dress is a work of art. You did such a fantastic job!

I remember how excited I was when I first learned you were going to make this costume because I knew you'd pay attention to all the small details, and get them right. It's truly beautiful and I am so impressed with it (and you!).

Your costume was one of my favorites at C4! As I said to you when I first spotted you at the RL photo shoot "You win!" It really is amazing, I don't know that I could ever do all that fiber etching and pleating. Your fabric choices and execution are just perfect!

 

Naboo_Girl, you outdid yourself with this costume. It's AMAZING!! So impressive!! And the amount of work...! 14 months is an unbelievable amount of time to spend working on a single project. I hope you continue to wear this costume around for a long time!
