The cover of the latest Insider shows us the Episode 3 clonetrooper helmet :D

The top looks like a clone, but the bottom of the helmet is definitely the OT stormtrooper.

here is a link to the picture on the OS. Enjoy! :)

I see it, I'm just not sure what to think about it yet....

Are they trying too hard to blend the generations, oir is this a natural progression?

It's a blend, and I love it. It combines the best parts of the two helmets. I love the t-visor of the AOTC clonetroopers and I love the bottom part of the stormtrooper.

I like that new helmet myself. I wish they could have either stayed with the T-visor or gone for the lens eyes from the OT instead of that Boussh looking one, but other than that, it's pretty groovy. :D
My favorite parts are the "tusks" though, they define the OT Stormtrooper helmet.

The binoculars are not permanently in that position. They clearly swivel back, plus I heard from Dark Horse that not all the clonetroopers have the binoculars to begin with.

::takes a moment to pay attention this time:: heh. I guess it does swivel... [face_blush]

    I'm glad I thought of that.... ~-

"I can't see a thing in this helmet!"

"Yeah, kid, well you should have seen the way they used to be!"

The visor is some type of image-enhancement device. Something like a thermal imager or night vision macro binocular device. This isn't standard issue, more for the higher ranking clones. (According to 3SA talk...)

if that little visor thing is something attached to the helmet and optional, then that's some sweet armor!!

Someone from the ECG did that about two years ago, not knowing what it'd look like, and now looking at the pictures, he was dead on!!

In a Hyperspace webchat today, Steve Sansweet confirmed that the binoculars are an accessory.

I think the visor kinda relates to the visor on the mandalorian helmets. It'll probably be more like a targeting computer like boba fett's and itll most likely(Duh) flip up automatically. Just thought id throw in my observation on the thing(it'd be neat to make a helmet with a motor so it swivels automaticaly like people do with their fett helmets)

I got my Insider in the mail today, & to be honest I don't really like the designs. The caption says that ILM simply photoshopped pieces of the CT's & ST's together & it shows. The part that I DO like is the helmet design if anything. It's a nice mixture, though I don't really think it was required at all to show such a quick & drastic change to ST design.

Hopefully these were just proof of concept shots, because even the paint jobs seem amatuerish. When the pic was first linked to I thought it was a fake.

i've said it before and i'll say it again. a 12 yr old with colorforms should NOT be working at ILM's art department. this stuff looks HORRIBLE.

i have very little hope for this movie.

Well, the image of the clones that was in here before it had to be taken down, *sigh again*, was basically a series of concept designs showing different ideas for color markings, right?
I read the text above them as implying those were not all final designs.

I missed out on seeing all the other Insider pics before they were taken down, so if I'm wrong, somebody correct me. :)

That's pretty much correct. It was basically a row of Clone/Stormtroopers with different "markings" on the armor. And they all looked bad.

With any hope these really were JUST proof of concept quickies & will not see the light of day on screen.

I do agree most of the colors were bad, but a couple were good.

But aside from that, I think the design (without colors) looks pretty good :)

The clonetrooper design itself is here to stay. There will be lots of variation among the clonetroopers (more than just colorings). I liked several of those markings and I doubt we will see all of them (if any) in Episode 3.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I don't like that new helmet.
