So we are only 1 year 2 months and 24 days away from Episode 3.

As a fan I think I speak for all if when I say we want it to be fantastic. But with the Lord of the rings trilogy wrapped up within three years.

Has George waited too long to give us the prequels?. Considering that filming only takes a couple of months if not weeks.

Is there a possibility that Lucas may falter not only from the pressure of avid fans. But also from movies like LOTR and the Matrix?

    Your comments please.

The LOTR movies were all made over 6 years like SW.
But they were all released a year apart.

Lucas doesn't care if films like The Matrix & LOTR are given higher acclaim or win more awards then his films do.
He makes them for fans to enjoy, not to compete with others.

Well, no, Star Wars does take longer, The 3 films are released over six years, but you've not taken into account the production time of the first film, so in reality it takes around nine years to complete work on a Star Wars Trilogy. And I think LOTR was 7 years not six.

    :p

Call me a smart alec, see if I care!

But will it actually win any awards?
Hopefully it will do better then the 2 Oscars the OT won.

EDIT: Argh, the later it gets, the worse my spelling gets.

The OT only got two Oscars? I beg to differ. The first one did alright at the Oscars, it didn't get Best Picture or anything, but it did win a number of technical accolades it was after ANH that ESB and ROTJ didn't fair too well. I'll just throw the stats in. Was discussing this earlier in light of the Oscars being on last night on another board.

Here you go, the OT Oscar stats are as follows:

    A New Hope

    Best Art Direction-Set Decoration (Won)
    Best Costume Design (Won)
    Best Effects, Visual Effects (Won)
    Best Film Editing (Won)
    Best Music, Original Score (Won)
    Best Sound (Won)
Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Nominated)
    Best Director (Nominated)
    Best Picture (Nominated)
Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen (Nominated)

    The Empire Strikes Back

    Best Sound (Won)
    Best Art Direction-Set Decoration (Nominated)
    Best Music, Original Score (Nominated)

    Return of the Jedi

    Best Art Direction-Set Decoration (Nominated)
Best Effects, Sound Effects Editing (Nominated)
    Best Music, Original Score (Nominated)
    Best Sound (Nominated)

Can't believe Empire didn't even get nominated for special effects. Imperial Walkers anybody?

    Hmmmmm?

    Thats not what I read.
I searched on Google about which Oscars LOTR won, and it said this:

The Return of the King has become the 1st fantasy film to win best picture, along with Sci-fi films such as E.T, Star wars and others

ESB & ROTJ also won special achievement Oscars for special effects.

At least John Williams won an Oscar for SW music.

Hmmmm? Maybe they got special specific Oscars that were not counted in the general runnings then? Like a life achievement award type of thing.

Ep3 will top even ESB, IMO -

GL doesn't care about profit now... he's just gonna do what he wants without worrying whether younlings'll like it, or whether he can get some kind of nintendo deal etc. He doesn't need cash anymore... he's got the project funded, and won't bow to any outside pressure.

John Williams will produce the best film score since Prokofiev's 'Lieutenant Kije' - AotC score was great... but surely he can do BETTER!

Generally a lot of the original team are looking at their last major project... they all want it to kick **** in a way never seen before. Leave something to be remembered in centuries to come kinda thing.

If I'm wrong, I hope I drown in muffin batter.

The OT itself will be remembered for years to come. The "old team" don't need to tyr and beat that. They need to focus more on story and acting ability instead of special effects.

Story, maybe... but I dunno, awful acting (and terrible scripts!) are part of the charm of SW for me. I mean... Mark Hamill? Sure, guys like Guinness can make anything work - even lines like 'only a master of evil, Darth' and 'you've taken your first step into a larger world'. Ian McDiarmid is damn good, too (cant wait to see him hiss and spit with rage again!) but I don't think good/bad acting makes that much difference... not to Star Wars

The story should be great, and the production and editing are bound to be. I think it will be an effective bridge between PT and OT - and on it's own a better film than any of the others.

If I'm wrong, I'm in for a HUGE disappointment!

You should see "the making of Ep III" documentaries on the official site.
    They are most interesting.

    That's pretty reasonable...

    I'll join :D

    That is good.
I think you'll find it highly useful. You get all the cool info and the webcam.

And soon they're gonna show the clone wars series 2.
