A family cannot be a MacGuffin. Again, the term is meaningless if it refers to any character/s or events that drive the plot.

A MacGuffin is defined by being (a) an concrete thing, be it an object or person, and (b) something that drives the plot despite its specific nature being irrelevant. A quick rule of thumb is to say "would they plot be dramatically changed if this thing was swapped for something of equal value". If the answer is "yes", then that thing isn't a MacGuffin.

Again, I offer Grievous as the best example of a MacGuffin in SW to date.

The Maltese Falcon is an excellent example of a MacGuffin. It's the stuff that dreams are made of.

I think that Blue Milk will be the MacGuffin. At the end of the film we will find that is comes from a sacred cow that has been roasted in honor of our heroes... and then all Hell will break loose as Sith come to Bar-B-Que the Jedi. [face_shhh] [face_devil]

The Death Stars always seemed like Macguffins to me. In fact, the second Death Star suffered from it.

The role and the reason for the importance of the Death Stars is way too obvious for them to be MacGuffins, I think.

If we must have McDonald's product placements in SW, I would prefer sausage over plain egg. I suppose the tie-ins will include blue milk served with Happy Meals.

Grievous is not bad as a MacGuffin, but he's no Death Star Plans.

At one point after AOTC, I thought the DS plans may have factored in as a MacGuffin in ROTS as well, with Obi-Wan or the Jedi hunting Dooku and his plans for a new super-weapon.

Obviously in the film Kenobi would have believed the plans had been destroyed in some way and the threat ended, only for him to be proven badly wrong by ANH. Would have tied in with his "that's no moon, it's a space station" foreboding nicely.

But I digress, where was I?

Blue Milk would be funnier if someone made a joke and it shot out of someones nose.

As long as the "The MacGuffin" doesn't have anything to do with the taxation of trade routes, I'll be happy.

Taxation of Trade Routes? Hum, what about if a solar system is destroyed to make way for a intergalactic highway? :p

The MacGuffin needs to be a secret weapon that kills on a mass scale. That why the plans for the first Death Star worked so well. Maybe even a new technology, A clocking device as in the EU's Thrawn trilogy or a whip that cuts through the light sabre. I would like to see a device that make a star implode devastating the entire local system not just a planet. perhaps all three at once.

I think there would be a problem with the Kaiburr Crystal. If it is what it was meant to be, then how could it be justified that it didn't show up in the other 6 movies?

Unless it's the crystal or something that holds the ability to unleash the Sith spirits from some sort of "purgatory". I like the concept of the Blue Leaf Cluster personally.

Wait, what's a McGuffin again? I always felt that the McGuffin in TPM was the missing parts for the queen's ship.
