Could be Luke and Rey.

Ya I hate it as well. Mainly because it breaks the naming convention.

2 - Attack of the Clones
5 - The Empire Strikes Back
8 - The Last Jedi (where's the verb!)

Ironically it would have fit in as an Episode 7 title, whereas "The Force Awakens" doesn't because there is a verb there:

1 - The Phantom Menace
4 - A New Hope
7 - The Last Jedi

Plus Luke has now been the "last Jedi" for 3 films now.

Well TFA repeated an entire story so this was the logical next step right?

 

True. I saw it as Luke but it's up to Rey (or Luke training Rey) to not make that the case anymore.... Passing on what he has learned.

 

Why isn't Last the verb in this case?

Well it's already breaking conventions by picking up right after VII.

It's great that Lucas set the conventions but he also broke them to further the story. TFA obviously wasn't about that and hopefully what JJ said about having to take a few steps back before going forward is what was part of the plan he and the group put together.

To me that is the only way that TFA can be elevated from a entertaining movie to a something that actually has purpose to the overall saga. It needs huge help from TLJ and IX to my mind anyway.

TLJ - red Star Wars font
Ep IX - blue Star Wars font?

Obligatory.

 

Awesome title - certainly better than The Force Awakens which was a good title but this one really hits immediately and will get people engaged.

It suggests to me a very Luke-heavy story - which I am absolutely down with. Bring it on! Come soon, December!

 

I wonder, will the logo be red on every officially licensed product including the DVD? Because that'd be super awesome

 

Not a huge fan of the short title.

 

It's clearly an adjective.

I just don't get it. Disney is OK with copying an entire story (which has never been a Star Wars thing) but IS OK with changing a long-standing Star Wars naming tradition? It's weird. Seems like they respect the saga, but only when they want to.

 

Needs red font.

 

I would love if this was the case. It would remind me a lot of how they marketed the Special Editions in the 90s with their different colored titles.

Perfect. And if you look at the title speculation thread, I suggested it...along with a hundred other people. In fact, I think it may have been the most commonly suggested title.

Re: the meaning, remember. Jedi can be plural too. So the title may refer to Rey as well (and/ or others).

Also, just as "The Force Awakens" didn't seem to be "about" that concept, this doesn't imply that the film is "about" Luke. It will be mostly about Rey and the other new characters. As Mark Hamill has said, don't expect him to be a protagonist.

That said, as we all know, this likely confirms that Luke will play a much larger role than in TFA.

Something like "Attack of the Clones" or "The Empire Strikes Back" probably would have been more lame anyway.

 

How is it a great title? It completely undermines "Return of the Jedi."
