Are translations usually that well monitored or what? All Star Wars movie titles before TFA got Swedish translations and they were all pretty weird.

The title wasn't translated in plural to confuse but likely because plural in many countries is gender neutral unlike singular which is gender specific. We know it's Luke but the word Jedi itself is gender neutral in English and foreign titles likely reflected that.

But this just shows that the simplest explanation is always the right one. The Last Jedi = Luke cause he was referred as such in TFA. Overthinking is fun but, yeah, in the end of the day, it's always something simple, not something convoluted.

Maybe it starts with one last Jedi and ends with more than one last Jedi.
Maybe the "Last Jedi" founds "The Last Jedi" that decide to be the last jedi - because as soon as their job is done and they destroyed the dark side - they will disband "The Last Jedi" in order to bring balance to the force.

I do not know... but it's really weird.

All the other titles in italian were fine except maybe 'The Phantom Menace' which sounded literally like 'The Ghost Menace' or 'The Ghostly Menace'
(so that on some newspaper in 1999 i remember reading also 'The Menace of the Ghost' once... ahah).

But this statement from Ryan Johnson is quite surprising given that immediately after the release of the title in english, we all debated about the plural or singular
and then when the official translations came out like 4 weeks ago i thought that the doubts were over.

    But now... uhmmm

Luke is the last Jedi when the TFA ends and TLJ begins. But it doesn't mean it stays that way (singular) forever...

The simplest explanation is often the right one. Not always. As a former intelligence analyst, believe me. It's definitely not always the case. :)

The Jedi were/are a Religion/sect/cult, as such they represent a plurality (a group). Church is plural even when it's singular?

Perhaps it means Luke as the last Jedi, but in plural as the Jedi Order (plural) is ending.
