Looks much better than the Episode I puppet.

Does anyone know if this is for real?

I think so that its real

In the recent Hyperspace article it states

"The Episode III DVD contains a snippet of test animation that replaced the Episode I Yoda puppet with the Episode III digital model."

Yup, its real and its been known (and discussed)for a while now.

(I say, thanks to convincing from this extraordinary CG TPM model, bring on the CG OT Yoda as well!)

Yeah, I know it been known but now we have visuals.

What would be the reason to CG the puppet?

    The puppet sucks.

Now if they will just re-dub him so he doesnt sound like Super Grover everything will be fine...

I think Indy meant the ESB puppet. I agree there's no reason to CGI esb Yoda. the puppetry is convincing enough as it is. and the basis for the CGI in the prequels. if you're just going to redo the OT Yoda why keep the puppet "mistakes" in the CGI version?

I agree. The puppet from the OT looks perfect in my opinion and should never be changed. It's a totally convincing performance that made Yoda come to life as the character we all love.

The reason the CGI Yoda looks better is because it is more faithful than TPM Yoda to that original puppet.

CG Yoda seems much more alive than any puppet to me. I would love to see the facial movements of all the puppets improved digitally.

I agree. I don't see any reason to replace CT Yoda with PT/CGI Yoda. At the same time I disagree with replacing the TPM Yoda Puppet with a CG version. I think he looks fine in TPM and it provides a nice bridge from the CT to the PT.

I'm sorry but the puppet in TPM looks anything but fine!! If anything, he widens the gap, because he's unlike any Yoda we've seen, between the OT and the PT!

He looks fine. What's wrong with him? The only reason Yoda went digital in Ep.II and III is because of the fight scenes. He doesn't do anything expect talk in Ep.I so I don't see any reason to replace him with CG Yoda.

First, he looks slimy. That's not good. He has a ton of hair (relatively speaking). That's not good either.

Admittedly, he does have a bit too much hair, but slimy? I don't see that one. I think he looks fine.

Too much hair? Ten years pass between TPM and AOTC. You could lose all your hair within seconds!

So in the ten years that go by between TPM and AOTC his bone structure shifts, his skin texture changes, he grows more wrinkles and loses all his hair but in the twenty years living in the swamps of dagobah he remains the same??

And more importantly--if in ten years he wrinkles, shifts facial structure and loses his hair, then at that rate, being 880 years old, he should have completely decomposed by now. An 800 year old tree will not visibly age in ten years--its timeline is much slower and drawn out. If Yoda is nearly 900 years old, ten years is the equivalent to about one year for a human being. Wouldnt you find it odd if Obi Wan aged from Ewan McGregor to Alec Guiness within the same film? For Yoda to lose his hair, have his voice drop two octaves, grow wrinkles and change his entire bone structure, even in the time between ROTS and ESB, is dumb.

The Yoda puppet was a joke. I dont know who built and designed it but they really dropped the ball. And the puppetering is absolutely terrible. He's all spastic and muppet-like.
