    Vader was the Emperor's second-in command, the science fiction equivalent of Himmler, a Nazi leader. A common fan misconception is that Tarkin had more authority than Vader did. That isn't true. As the Rise and Fall of Darth Vader explains, Vader answered to nobody but the Emperor, the Emperor ordered Vader to be subservient to Tarkin on the Death Star.

    I like you, OP, you got brass. It's my opinion that the story of Star Wars is the story of the war against the Empire interwoven with the the story of the literal return of the Jedi to the galaxy. The Darth Vader movies are basically just spin off stories. Wars can still be episode 4, but episodes 1 through 3 will actually be the story of how the jedi were hunted down and killed and how the rebellion formed. Can't wait to see those movies!
