Hey everyone. I thought it might be fun to try to re-create shots from Episode III. So I have put together a packet of materials from my Mustafar environment project. Below is a zip file of all the things you need to create a basic Mustafar composite.

Now, with this challenge you guys are free to use any or all of these elements. You can also add your own elements. Completely up to you. The trick is to take all these elements, and make it one seamless shot. Just a few tips...

    1. None of these elements are color matched. You will have to do that yourself.
    2. I rendered the falling ash as grayscale, you can use Color Balance to make the ash a reddish color, similiar to lightsaber methods.
    3. Same with the Steam. In a real situation, the steam would be red tinted from lava light.
    4. Your comp needs to be set at 853x480 for proper aspect ratio. Otherwise, the duel footage will look stretched.

Have fun, and post your results here. I look forward to seeing your results...

Thanks to Cryptite for hosting the file...

Hmm, I can't seem to be able to import the Duel.Avi file. The other files work out fine, but this one reads as a faint grey font.
Am I missing a plug in, or do I need a codec?

EDIT: I am using AE 6.5 Pro.

    Pixel, you frickin' legend.
I take it we can add our own elements? As in, I can add my own lava effects?

Wow this might be a stretch as I've never done any compositing before, just roto-ing. Thanks for setting this up, it'll be a lot of fun!

Well I can't composite or track and stuff to save my life, but it would be great to see these two fighting on the set of our film. So when someone's done it, if they could send me an After Effects with the keying and tracking done, that would be fabby :)

(Of course, I won't be entering this "comp". It's just for personal pleasure :) )

Brad, when you finish rotoing, do you think you could send me the AE file with the saber masks? I don't want to re-roto this shot.

He he, I'm just impressed that I managed to remove the bluescreen! [face_dancing]

It's the compositing of the backgrounds I'm getting around to now, I think I put a few too many elements in at once on my first attempt.

Will hopefully update in the morning...

Sure man. I have class all day so I won't be able to do much until tonight, but I will try and roto first.

It was a little slow this morning, but nothing like that. Give it some it and it should speed back up.

That really does look nice, Zap. Aside from the duel footage being cut off on the edges, I really like the way the comp is pulled out a little. I also like the straight pan a bit more than the jaring movements seen in the tracking marker. Nice work and I hope you finish it up.
