ST Episode VIII or IX -Potential for Han return?

Exactly. It's funny; my son said the same thing in the car on the way back from the movie about Han possibly coming back somehow "because it's Star Wars, a magical world where anything can happen." I couldn't disagree with him because, well, Palpy in the EU, Maul in the Clone Wars animated series, Obi-Wan's ghost in the films, etc. But the fact that Harrison does not want to play Han anymore, and what GregMcP just said above -- which I didn't bother to go into in response to my son -- both tell me that Han won't be coming back (except in the anthology movies).

Interesting. I was thinking that the "rhyme" with Han being frozen in carbonite was Finn being sliced in the back.

 

Yes, another vision seems to be the most logical explanation. I don't know why Adam Driver is not mentioned though. He's not listed on IMDB either.

 

Those are faked all the time. There was one for the Amazing Spider-Man 3 starring Andrew Garfield and Dane Dehaan earlier this year. Not to mention Adam Driver isn't listed as a star. This was made by a fan who googled a few confirmed castings and assumed Kylo was going to die because of Benecio Del Toro's rumored villain role.

 

The "stupid" seems especially strong on these boards right now.

 

What wouldn't surprise me is some sort of a vision from Kylo or Rey. Nothing more than a cameo though, no force spirit Han Solo.

No, just like what they have done. Avoid talking about 8 and focus on 7. She could have easily avoided the question.

He is DEAD. For sure. But I would not be surprised if he is in a flashback or force meditation scene by one of our force sensitives (Luke, Rey, Ben, or even Leia). And, I would not be surprised if they already filmed it, and Harrison can just collect a paycheck from home.

Still DEAD..not the same to me.

But no...I gotta say, I think as much as it all pains us that Han is dead, we all appreciate that story element because it does "give some gravitas to this thing" as Ford said in his advocacy to Lucas of killing Solo in RotJ. I think that the fan base is generally at peace with Han's death. So, I think Lucasfilm would actually view it as a slap in the face to the fans and as a compromise to the integrity of the story to somehow bring Han back.

Besides, Han's not coming back is why the LANDO character was created. Cue Lando in Episode VIII!

But kidding aside, that's an interesting theory, but I seriously doubt Han will show up as a Force ghost.

Han's dead. A character return sounds very Disneyish but Harrison Ford would just refuse to do it.

He may well film some kind of 5 second cameo as a force ghost for the end of IX, though.

 

Nah, they could film it from his armchair. Like they did with Hayden. Just impose his head on an old guy's body.

 

Harrison won't do anything dumb. We're protected by that. And he doesn't need the money.

 

That's a hilarious image. And while I share your cynicism about the story being driven by moneymaking, I really don't think they'll ignore the fact that only Force users come back as Force ghosts. Lucasfilm made too much ado about the nuts and bolts of Force ghosting in that last season of The Clone Wars animated series.
