The confusion's not your fault, it's the fault of the people writing these articles. This isn't news, it's been happening since 2015. But we need to write about something Star Wars and over-analyse the most recent press releases from Lucasfilm, which apparently don't contain any other newsworthy information.

Well there is just 1 thing I want from TLJ. I want Rey Clone. But I'll settle for Rey Skywalker. I want the bloodline to continue. If we get Rey Random or heaven forbid Rey Palpatine I definitely won't watch it 20 times.

 

I for one will settle for Rey Del.

 

I can't imagine Rey being anything but a Skywalker.

I don't know what I want Rey's parentage to be. I just know that I wouldn't mind any of the most popular possibilities. Rey Skywalker, Rey Solo, Rey Random -- I can roll with any of those. Rey (direct descendant of) Kenobi doesn't sit quite right with me, though.

I'm most interested in where the storyline will take Finn. And Leia. If I'm emotionally invested in any sequel-trilogy characters, it's those two.

9% Rey Solo

Rey Skywalker-Kenobi-Palpatine. Descended from Palpatine's super secret double agent daughter and original Emperor's Hand, Sabe.

 

I read this thought some time ago - was this supposed to be a potential spoiler or just a fan theory?

Rey as Ben's younger sibling, and her supposed "death" makes Ben vulnerable to the dark side? And Han and Leia do not recognize her because they're sure that their daughter is dead? Still, Kylo and Han and Leia all react to her in some way because they feel that there's something there.

I don't think that this version is particularly likely, but it would set it up a proper "I am your brother" moment instead of some much less pressing connection.

Other than that, I eventually realized that the lightsaber-induced vision in ep7 starts with Cloud City because that's the last place the audience saw this lightsaber, so everything after that should probably include Anakin's saber, too. Having this lightsaber have some adventures after ep6, including the Jedi Academy attack, sounds really great if you go with Luke giving the saber tooooo... Mara Jade

 

That is an interesting force vision theory I'm on board for.

I'm just as interested in how Maz got Luke's old lightsaber in the first place.

 

I'm interested in that also, but I'm willing to bet that Abrams didn't have a concrete backstory in mind for that and was willing to just let someone else in the future fill it in.

 

That is in a short story included in the PB version of TFA: The Perfect Weapon by Delilah S. Dawson

The same way Maz got Luke's lightsaber.

 

If it was actually supposed to be related to an item from the movie, that story was probably intended to be how Kylo Ren got Vader's helmet. Or at least be a winking implication.

 

Yeah, Bazine's client totally screamed Kylo Ren or at least an agent thereof.

Honestly, am I the only person who doesn't really CARE how Maz got the Skywalker lightsaber? I wouldn't mind hearing the story if there's a good one, but I don't particularly need it.

 

We already have two stories about it, after all.

The second of those actually does seem like something that would be in the nu-canon.

I read "old chest" to be what Maz had in the basement. Your theory makes a lot of sense, especially with a mercenary like her.
