I figured that the other spaceships were parked in heavy tree cover, just like the Falcon. A smuggler's castle isn't going to be very inconspicuous if you can see its landing facilities from space.

The fact that I genuinely DON'T believe that TLJ is going to be "The First Order Strikes Back" is one of the reasons I find the walker so baffling. It's not like they don't know people have that as a concern.

Did people whine this much when Episode I included a riff on the trench run (and a lengthy segment on Tatooine!) and Episode II had SPHA-Ts? I feel we didn't.

You mean Anakin 'spinning, that's a good trick' Skywalker's flying through a battle, crash landing in a hanger and then accidentally firing off two torpedoes that just happened to go down a reactor shaft? Yeah, that went down well.

MakingStarWars has rumors about Maz (which sound vaguely familiar but I don't know where I heard this before... was last year maybe):

Supposedly she introduces Finn and Rose to DJ, Del Toro's character. I feel like I've heard this rumor a while ago, at least in terms of her introducing DJ to the heroes (not Finn and Rose specifically). Regardless, I have to wonder if DJ is related to Maz getting Luke's saber on Bespin. This would be an... interesting... way to lead into Lando's plot. Del Toro playing frontman for Lando who's playing it low-key would be cool. (I'm still convinced Lando is a plot they're keeping under wraps...)

Speaking of MSW, they seem to have the first Episode IX rumor/spoiler (depending on how much you believe in it). Personally, I buy it:

Desert planet introduced in the first movie returning in the third movie of the trilogy... about par for the "rhyming" of the ST to the OT.

I have said before that TFA took its cues from Dark Empire (probably why I love it so much).

I just want to know when Luke puts on the glove / what inspires him to put on a glove / why wasn't he wearing the glove when Rey showed up? this could be at least as short story if it's not addressed in the film. Or it was his One Glove Only laundry day.

So in my quarterly Rian Johnson movies now I watched "Looper" again, I freakin love "Looper". Like, a lot. All of Johnson's movies there is a bunch of information and plot twists, and Looper opens up with one hellova a exposition dump, but also there some great bits of plot info here that are just communicated via visuals instead. Like one extremely harrowing scene early on shows how they're getting a future time travel guy to go to a certain location and a lot of terrible things are happening to future time travel guy. It's never explicitly stated what is going on but you can tell and it works a lot. Star Wars movies people talk a lot (and in Rian Johnson movies people talk a lot too frankly)

You know who's also in Looper? Noah Segan, he plays Kid Blue. (Which I sort of think as an aside that Abe is Kid Blue's Looper from the future, or his dad, they definitely have an interesting mentor / student dynamic in between the lines. Or it's just that Jeff Daniels can do almost anything). But I only mention this because Segan is also in Brick and Brothers Bloom (and Looper) so I'm going to keep my eyes peeled if he pops up in The Last Jedi. I'd put better odds on Segan than Gordon-Levit (but I'd think both could also be a possibility).

this is probably Johnson's best looking movie, there are some fantastic wide shots and single takes which could translate easily to Star Wars (hell, think of the trailer shot that pans around the mountain as Rey is working the lightsaber on the "It's so much bigger" line). And I kind of love how the film has this great scale and then pares wayyyyyy down for the finale. There's a bunch of neat extended scenes throughout, I really dig the whole Joe to Old Joe's time lapse. Also things go quite wrong continually for the characters here and I did notice that Johnson said when he planed TLJ he thought "what could be the worse thing that happens to the characters after Force Awakens" so I definitely expect some buttons to be pushed. Also the Old Joe / Young Joe dynamic is pretty cool because they kind of hate each other but I especially like the Weight of the World that Old Joe has (and Willis brings to his performance). I do also expect Luke in Last Jedi to be rather weighed down by the consequences of actions and life which will give it a bit of pathos, which is what Old Joe has here.

Oh and there's more crime, swindles and lowlifes in Looper, which is all 3 of Johnson's movies, so I fully expect that in Last Jedi, definitely on the Casino Planet and DJ the slicer.

Did I mention that I'm totally happy that Rian Johnson is doing a Star Wars movie? Cuz I really am. Seriously, if one hasn't seen Brick, Brothers Bloom or Looper, must watch, ASAP.

I don't want the Rian Johnson fest to end so I'm definitely going to get in and rewatched his 3 episodes of Breaking Bad in at some point: Fly, Fifty One and Ozymandias. Haven't really rewatched any Breaking Bad full episodes since I watched the whole series once and Ozymandias is probably one of Breaking Bad's best episodes.

I think there genuinely has to be somebody inspired by it on the art team.

So you want some kind of... "the Glove of Luke Skywalker" story?

Simple answer: he put on the glove because it's cheaper than CGI-ing the hand the entire movie. :p

I don't really see a lot of Dark Empire influence in TFA, to be honest. But some of the unused art in the art book, both the designs and the story concepts they echo, do seem very Dark Empire-ish, though in the latter case I think it's a bit of DE and those particular art designers both having similar grasp of some of the themes in the OT and that Lucas was personally interested in. The idea of Anakin/Vader hybrid ghost appearing to Luke in particular and Luke being the only Jedi to have balanced both light and dark within him seemed like something that Veitch would have liked to do, if the idea/permission had been there in the early 90s.

I do feel like the prequel trilogy feels very much like something that would "flow" into Dark Empire (perhaps not surprising as my own thoughts are some of the themes in it came from Lucas reading DE) so the fact that the prequels are being pretty sidelined in favor of OT emulation for TFA probably colors my opinion on this.

In any case, io9 has a reveal of some of the TLJ action figures coming out tomorrow: http://io9.gizmodo.com/an-exclusive-look-at-the-dark-side-of-the-new-star-wars-1798639362

Is that Shadow Guard from the Guardians of Evil set actually from anything in the new canon, or are they actually making a full-sized figure of a Lego figurine?

Ahhhh, well that's an entirely different question as to why he's currently wearing a glove. :)

My speculation: it became to difficult to maintain, he wanted a visible of what he had lost.

However, I think the out of universe explanation here is probably the most likely. Easier to do robo-hands in 2015 than 1980.

Did we see much of his hand after his showdown with Palpatine? Maybe the Force lightning rotted it away? Maybe it's just that cyborg chic came into style between trilogies.

It's from the Force Unleashed. Based on the "history of the guard design" angle they're shooting for, I doubt it'll be in NuEU
