When understanding the intoxication of power it is instructive to look at Darth Sidious and what he accomplished during ROTS and its relevance throughout the Saga in the context of his statements as Chancellor. It is elementary to look at statements by those in positions of power relevant to the historical record and challenge it. In any system of control there is a tendency for one to do the opposite, to parallel their beliefs with that of power. With this understanding it is somewhat easy to see how the events unfolded in this specific timeframe in Star Wars history and the consequences that followed. For the events of the future prove Palpatine?s two main themes in his discussion with Anakin that, ?All those who gain power are afraid to lose it? and ?good is a point of view?.

Palpatine?s ?vision?, based on his statements in the emergency meeting at the Senate Chamber, was to create the first Galactic Empire, ?for a safe and secure society? and to ensure their stability. He said that the, ?war is over. The separatists have been defeated and the Jedi rebellion has been foiled?; that the attempt on his life has left him scarred but his, ?resolve has never been stronger? and the, ?remaining Jedi will be hunted down and defeated?. This is a standard process when a change in government takes place. The elements of opposition must be ?swept away? and any challenge to that of power is ?hunted down? and made an official enemy. The changes are immediately justified in the mind of the new leader and conveyed to his listeners. This becomes the new reality as the former is so easily and confidently removed from history. Since power obfuscates truth through intense propaganda we see the crowd showing their allegiance, ?with thunderous applause?.
