Before - Legends Essence of Dagobah (Padawan Yoda story) 7/ 3 /07 Yoda Best Non Human Thanks

Title: Essence of Dagobah

Summary: I decided to rewrite Sprout Of Dagobah. This is a new upgraded version that will stand alone. Maybe a little more polished than the first with all new adventures.

This is a young Yoda story but there will be many familiar family names pop up.

Disclaimer: I bow to Master Lucus for allowing me to visit his galaxy occasionally. As long as I promise not to take anybody home with me.


Now to the story... in a galaxy far far away...




The hairs on the back of Moth's neck stood on end as he wandered through the strange market place looking for something recognizable to eat. Fruit of unfamiliar shapes and forms, grains and nuts of all kinds of shapes, mushrooms, meats of strange beast but nothing he could identify. The last time he was brave and tried something new he spent three days in the fresher.

'Note to self: check supplies before leaving on mission. Boy! I miss my old padawan.

It's been a long time since I ate last ? maybe that's the cause of the strange feeling I'm having.

Nah! This has got to be a Force signature, I'm sure of that but what kind of creature?species it is?' A movement caught his attention as green face peeking out from under the cloth on a display table.

'That's the source of the signature.' Kotn squatted down and lifted the cloth to reveal the face of the mystery creature.

"Hey your people don't eat these things do you?" Kotn looked up at the large four-armed furry creature running the booth.

"Ate what?" The booth's proprietor asked not quite getting galactic basic correctly.

"The little green thing under here." Kotn answered, then looked back down to pull it out to show the proprietor.

"Hey where did it go?" Kotn said, seeing only a basket of the orange dimpled fruit.

"Wares on table ? not under! Sell or go!" The furry creature growled.

Kotn scratched his head, stood to go and caught two pieces of fruit that rolled off the stack of red oblong delicacies.

He looked around the table discreetly, trying not to irritate the owner again. 'Where did it go? Oh! Great! I'm seeing things. Must be my blood sugar dropping, again.'

"I'll take these."

He walked off smelling of his unintentional choices. 'Sweet. No Force warning.

Oh well, the head healer say you should purge your system every so often.

I always hated her classes. I can still hear her squeaky voice saying, "A Jedi healer should teach by example."

I think she purged a little too often.

That's it I need to go back to my ship and meditate.'

Kotn munched on the fruit as he walked trying to concentrate on the mission. ~ a new herb reported to have amazing healing powers was used by the local people and he had been sent to study it and obtain a sample along with some of the plants for the temple pharmaceutical gardens. 'Yes, I have everything I was sent to find.'

'I hate herbs they always taste like something you would find between a bantha's toes.

I hate traveling alone I always end up talking to myself.

Why didn't I pick a new padawan before I left?'

Kotn palmed open the ramp and walked into the warm and familiar interior. He palmed the ramp shut behind him, draped his robe over the boxes of plants and folded unto his meditation position.

'I need a bigger ship. No, I had to go alone so you got the clunky little scout ship not much bigger than a life pod. At least the fresher works. That's more than I could say for the last ship.

All right meditate. Release your care to the Force. Allow your body to utilize the nutrients so you can see if this fruit is acceptable to purchase for the trip home.'

Crunch ? crunch

Kotn startled out of his thoughts and opened his eyes to see the creature from the marketplace sitting on his robe on the box of plants, eating a bulbous root he had opted not to try. Now that it was out from under the table he could see it was dress

 

Hooray! A new Yoda story! Please put me on your PM list if you've got one!

"I don't even know who or what you are and I am not the one to do the test." Kotn informed him.

"Go get supplies now, go to ones who do test and pro? ce?dures, can we."

Kotn sat mouth open as the creature bounced off the boxes and palmed the ramp open and started down it then turned to see what was keeping him. "Oh! Yoda, my name is!"

 

Awesome, a new story and already it has totally intrigued me. I love how Yoda just shows up and demands to be a padawan. This should be interesting. Can you pm me with updates? Great start!

Chapter Two - The Trip

Moth sat trying to meditate but the new passenger watching his every move unnerved him. "Can you stop watching me? I can't meditate with someone watching me!"

"Want to learn, I do. How learn if not watch?" Yoda reasoned, innocently.

"Okay, I'll explain what I'm doing so you can do it yourself. Will that get you to close your eyes for a few minutes?" Moth asked exasperated from three days of being couped up in a small ship and being studied in detail.

"When a Jedi is tired, ill or just needs to relax he meditates. ~ You sit quietly like this. ~ You relax. ~ You reach out and allow the Force to calm your fears, anxieties, to soothe your nerves. ~ You allow it to flow through you to heal your wounds. ~ It tells you of dangers ? of things to come."

"Huhh!"

Moth peaked out at the snickering green creature. "Is there a problem with my explanation?"

"Warn you I was coming, it did not."

"Are you saying I'm in danger because of you?" Moth asked warily.

"No! No! Dangerous, I am not. Just annoying." Yoda shook his head until his ears wiggled causing Moth to grin.

"Annoying? Who told you you were annoying?"

"Parents, parents parents, three ships captains, four ships cooks, two? three shops keepers and you." Yoda dutifully listed the requested information.

"I never said you were annoying." 'At least not out loud.'

Yoda looked at him and straightened slightly.

'Did he hear that? ? Nah!'

Moth narrowed his eyes and looked at the pupil before him. 'He would have to have years of training to do that.'

Yoda smiled ever so slightly and closed his eyes and reached out to the Force allowing it to flow through him as instructed.

Moth watched him for a few minutes then realized he was missing out on what little quiet time he might be allowed to have and joined him.

As they sat meditating together Moth studied the Force signature of the padawan wannabe.

He had meditated in the presence of others before, his master, other initiates in the creche, other knights on missions but this one was different. It gave off an air of wisdom yet seemed young and innocent, almost naïve. It felt different, strange, the type of strange that usually came with a dangerous new activity yet he felt safe sitting across from him.

It was a him, wasn't it? Moth pondered the tiny creature looking for possible signs of gender. 'Yes, definitely male.'

'Where is he from?' Moth couldn't feel anything, no impressions of where it was from. Usually he could pick up a wandering thought of some distant planet, an impression of a parent even from ones that were separated from their parents at an early age but there was none from the tiny green creature. 'Maybe they don't know their parents like the bird people of Tampor, who's parent lay their eggs in the warm sand and migrate, leaving the offspring to fend for themselves.'

'No this creature doesn't have the aloof almost indifference to life the bird creatures have. He was definitely nurtured as a youngling. But where is he from? It's almost as if?

He's got ? a shield?

He's got a shield!

Yoda sat quietly meditating seemingly unaware of the sudden disturbance from his companion. Then he opened his eyes and stared directly at Moth, a smile hinted at the corners of his mouth.

Poor Yoda, though I suppose he had it coming to him.

And I love the fact that Yoda is already so wise before even being trained. I can't wait to see what happens next, great update!

Chapter Three ? The arrival

Moth sat the small ship down on the landing pad near the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and watch out the forward window as the Head of the Jedi Council and two other Masters from the Council came out to meet them. He finished the check-list and walked to the ramp and lowered it to see the tall male Quermian with a long neck. Moth always remembered his first impression of the master who looked like someone tried to pick him up by his head and stretched his neck to three times normal. Master Bria, a female from Alderaan and Master Lange, a male Corellian accompanied him.

"Master Lemuel Poof, Master Sianna Bria and Master Rue Lange, this is my traveling companion and the gentleman who requests to be trained to be a Jedi Knight." Moth bowed respectfully to the Masters then gestured to the small visitor.

"Yoda, this is the Master Poof, Head of the Jedi Council and Masters Bria and Lange. They are three of the people who will decide if you are to be trained."

Yoda, who was looking around at the many remarkable buildings and distracted by all the sound of Coruscant traffic suddenly straightened and became much more interested in the masters.

"Honored to meet you, I am. Come to be trained as a Jedi, I have." Yoda declared and bowed to the distinguished masters.

"May we ask where you are from? I am not familiar with your species." Master Poof asked, observing the diminutive green creature cautiously.

"Not allowed to say, am I." Yoda said unaware of the gravity of his statement.

"What do you mean you are not allowed to say?" Master Poof asked, unaccustomed to being denied any information he asked for.

"Not welcomed to visit our planet, outsiders are. So not allowed to tell where it is, am I." Yoda announced naively.

"Are your people hostile to outsiders?" Master Lange asked, surprised at the response.

"No not hurt outsiders just scare them away, we do." Yoda said, puzzled by the master startled reactions to his answers.

"How do you scare them off?" Master Bria asked suspiciously.

"Not allowed to say, am I." Yoda said and looked to Master Moth for help understanding the problem.

"We like to know a little about a species before we train them so we don't train someone then find out they are planning to use their training for the darkside." Moth tried to supply a bridge of understanding for the creature he had been studying for the past few days.

"Not understanding darkside, explain darkside, can you?" Yoda asked, crinkling his forehead baffled by the strange term.

"The Force is what gives us our abilities. We can use the lightside and do good with those abilities or we can use the darkside which is fueled by anger, jealousy and hate which causes us to do bad thing with it."

"Anger, jealous, hate I do not have. Protect my people, I want." Yoda was relieved to see the Masters relax at hearing this.

"Can we discuss this later, maybe after we establish his trust?" Moth asked respectfully.

"That we can do," Master Poof agreed, "but there is still the matter of age."

"You do understand we usually start training at an earlier age there are so many things to learn and at your age. May I ask what is your age?" Master Lange asked.

"In your standard years, thirty years of age, I am." Yoda announced proud of his reaching the age of decision.

"Our policy is to not take initiates over three." Master Bria said politely but firmly. "You are much to firmly entrenched in your ways and would be of advanced years by the time you finished your training.

"Many times things it's much more difficult to learn after a certain age it would be a waste of your time and ours." Master Lange confirmed.

"Then there is the matter of your height, even though a Jedi is not necessarily a warrior one must be prepared to deal with situations

 

How ironic that Yoda becomes one of the greatest Jedi Masters ever and they didn't want to let him be a Jedi. I can't wait to see how Yoda does on that test, it should be interesting. Wonderful chapter as always and I can't wait for more.

Chapter Four- The Visitor

"Yoda would you like to go with me to make my report to the healers or would you like to visit the archives?" Moth asked as they left the Council chamber.

"Ooh! Archives, I would like to visit. Study for test, I could." Yoda looked bright eyes at Moth.

'Should I tell him this isn't a study for it kind of test? Nah! He would be bored and cause problems during my report. The archive would be a safer choice.' "Good choice, follow me I'll show you to the archive." Moth took off toward the archive at his usual pace unaware of the inconvenience his two-meter plus frame caused his small companion. On arriving at the lift he turned to see Yoda running to catch up. "I'm sorry Yoda. I was thinking about my report and forgot about your size."

"Accustom to running, I am. Taller than me everyone offworld seems to be." Yoda panted slightly.

Moth escorted Yoda into the archive and watched as he marveled at the height of the room, the marble column supporting the ceiling and the seemingly never-ending shelves of information. "The Jedi Archive is the largest collection of information in one place in the galaxy. If it is to be had we have it here."

Moth waved Master Jolanda Nu over and quietly asked the prim and proper older master with a gray bun held up by two delicate wooden sticks and wearing an impeccably arranged cream and purple robe. "Master Nu, I have a report to give on my last mission and I was wondering if you could watch my guest for a couple of hours. He is to be tested to be an initiate and I am acting as his host while he is here. He would love to read up on the history of the Jedi I am sure."

Master Nu looked around then down seeing her new charge. "Ah! Yes, I would love to show? him? ?around. What is your name little fellow?" Master Nu asked, as she would any small possible initiate candidate. "How old are you?"

"Yoda and thirty standard years, I am." Yoda answered, looking rather perturbed at her tone.

"Oh! You are kind of old for such a little fellow aren't you?" She said, digging herself deeper into the hole.

Moth walked off leaving the two to work out their situation on their own. 'I have a bad feeling about this,' he thought as the door to the lift closed.

Moth arrived in the healer ward and found Master Felipe digging in the boxes of plants and samples of processed materials he had collected. Tan'ge was reading aloud from the data pad several examples of uses for the herbal remedies, both inundated him with questions about his experiences on Thyferra.

Three hours later and his brain fried from questions Moth walked out of the lift to head to his quarters then remembered his guest and had to backtrack to get to the archive. He looked around and found Master Nu in a lively discussion about the value training in the diplomatic arts gave Jedi Knights.

"Ah! Master Moth, I must say your guest was a perfect gentleman. I showed him to a holo-cubical and he has been studying as quietly as a mouse. He's right this way." Master Nu took off at her full flowing pace and opened the door to the study cubical she left her charge in. In side the holo-imager was droning on about the sixteenth head of the Jedi Council and the changes and improvements he made to the curriculum and wardrobe but no guest was to be found.

"I?I?know he was here I checked on him several times." Master Nu blushed as she realized her charge was missing.

"When was the last time you checked on him?" Moth asked feeling sorry for her since she prided herself on never making mistakes.

"Just as the Padawans came in for their diplomatic discussions. That was?oh dear? two hours ago. I got so caught up I lost track?"

"It's okay! I'm sure he's here wandering in some of the stacks of

I guess Master Poof needs to find out the hard way its not that easy to get rid of Yoda.

It's very weird to read about someone trating Yoda like a child.


It was! There sat Yoda on the floor, holocrons strewn all around him, many of the familiar pyramidal shape of the Sith. The door to the vault was clearly marked several meters above his head.

NO INITIATES ? NO PADAWANS ? NO KNIGHTS
ONLY MASTERS WITH COUNCIL PERMISSION ALLOWED BEYOND THIS POINT

And of course that means Yoda has to go beyond that point. Yipes, what is going to happen to him now? Great update, can't wait for more.
