Yeah, pretty much.

Who do you believe could have done it?

 

Not sure, that's why I asked.

 

There must be at least someone who could've prevented at least one of those two relationships.

 

At the risk of sounding too Freudian, I think his love of Padme comes out of the loss he feels for his mother (leaving her, even before her death), so I see those two as linked. Padme met his mother, she visited his home planet when he was a kid, and she was the first other compassion he knew other than his mother. Especially since Qui-Gon dies shortly after he leaves Tattooine.
My point being that no Jedi could have prevented it - though a more observant and strict Master might have kept them apart more diligently. Though from what we see of Anakin - might that just have caused him to turn on his Master?

The relationship with Sidious seems to replace the actual connection he does not feel to Obi-Wan; so maybe another Jedi could have taken that place?

 

I think this has to do with the fact that Obi-Wan and Anakin were opposites and also the fact that Obi-Wan didn't truly want to train him as his Padawan. As Becca said, he only did so out of a sense of duty to his deceased Master.

This is in great part what kept them apart and never allowed their differences to be settled in order to have a more harmonious and less conflictive relationship.

 

I think a stricter Master would have seen Anakin turn to Sidious as the "father figure" even more so than with Obi-Wan. A less strict master would have seen the relationship with Padme flower that much more. It was something internal to Anakin, his fear of losing loved ones, prodded on by his relationship with ol' Palpy that brought about his fall. Not sure there was any way to prevent that.

 

I think a Master who was perhaps less action oriented... or one who was away from Coruscant more, perhaps. I don't think Anakin's love of Padme is inherently of the dark side, but his obsession over her absolutely was. Mommy issues, as Jay says.

I do think that Obi-wan did the best he could with what he knew, and ultimately made up for it all.

Ultimately, though, it doesn't really matter because in the end he did indeed fulfill his role as 'the Chosen One', so everything else is irrelevant.

 

Qui-Gon forgot to recite the Terms and Conditions of training Anakin to Obi-Wan before conveniently dying.

Indeed an interesting topic... I know there's an RPG that deals with rewriting the EU but I'm curious what would have happened if Anakin hadn't fallen to the dark side, if Order 66 hadn't happened, if Palpatine had been arrested/killed... I think the Jedi Order stil would have fallen eventually, personally, they'd grown too arrogant.

 

That, and the old adage about absolute power.

 

I must say, what a scumbag, trolling prophecy that was.

The one who wrote it was like, 'I'll tell them about the Chosen One who will bring balance to the Force, but I won't specify that he would first turn to the dark side and completely destroy the Jedi Order.'

 

Apparently no one read the fine print carefully.
