A Jedi meditates to achieve self-discipline, the third pillar of the Jedi, without which one cannot achieve mastery of the Force. Secondly, it allows a Jedi to achieve inner peace, harmony and serenity. Meditation can also be used for healing, or repairing technology such as fighters/droids through moving meditation. Primarly, though, it was to connect to the Force and re-connect oneself with the guidelines of the Jedi Code.
