Jack, FL Event: Matthew Stover to do a ROTS book signing. . .

I've got some awesome news, well at least for those of you who are EU fans! Matthew Stover, the author of The New Jedi Order: Traitor, the Clone Wars novel: Shatterpoint and the ROTS novel is coming to Orange Park's one and only Books a Million!

He is an awesome author and he posts regularly on the boards if you wish to talk to him you can go to his thread in Authors and Artists and he tries to post on a very regular basis.

His non-SW books include:

Jericho Moon
Iron Dawn
Hero's Die
Blade of Tyshalle

I think I'm leaving one out, but they are awesome books, though beware his non-SW books tend to contain *a lot* of swearing, sex and graphic fight scenes. But that kinda makes the book a lot cooler.

Will the ROTS book be available by then?

 

Book is released on April 2nd, 6 days earlier and since its a ROTS book signing, I'm sure there'll be books there.

Oh and one word about the book signing, or signings in general. Its considered bad show to bring the books to sign, the store isn't getting anything other than publicity from hosting him and the only thing they'll get are book sales. So whoever is going, please just buy your ROTS novel at the store and get it signed there. This way BAM may offer to host another SW author later down the road.

Great! I have a BAM discount card so I probably would have bought the book there anyway even if he wasn't signing.

I'll bring my camera too - I am hoping to start compiling some pics so that we can do a website. Which I can volunteer time for since that's what I do in my 'day' job!

Question, Does he requiere an escort?, last time that somebody show up fan force gave them an escort,(reference)read bantha tracks in starwars insider. I mean people in costume. It will be cool to see him with couple people by his side.

 

I'm not sure, I've never been to a book signing before so I don't really know how it works. Though I do imagine there'll be at least one person with him there and I can't imagine the store being too crowded. I know I want to get a picture of myself with Stover, as he's one of the best authors I've ever had read.

 

We can ask BAM to see if he needs an escort - then we can potentially do a costume event if we want.

 

Let me know, I'm all over if we want to suit up.

Hello. I was looking forward to the book signing when I heard about it at the meeting but when I saw this post it just hit me what the date was. My wife and I are going out of town to visit her parents for the weekend and we are leaving Friday night. I wanted to check and see if there was anyone who would mind grabbing me an autographed copy of the book. I would be willing to pay for the price of the book plus a little extra for the trouble. If you can help me out, please let me know and we will work something out. Thanks-a-million

I requested the day off when I first had official confirmation about the signing from the LFL publicist.

Boss was like. . .

"You're requesting a day off to get a SW book signed?"

"Yes sir. That a problem?"

So is there no one going in costume??? Has anyone contacted the store and asked if they would like us to come in costume? There could be a free book in it for us. That's thinking extreme...but ya never know!

I call the store today and spoke with the manager and she said that is ok with us to come in costume, we can promote our fanforce chapter. So I'm coming in as a jedi but with armo(clone wars style).

 

Been out of town for a few days and it's taking me an hour just to read all I've missed. Actually that's good! Welcome to all the newbies!!

I'll be at BAM in my Jedi costume. I'm still doing a little last minute sewing and finishing my belt. I was going to buy one from Chris but making it myself is not so hard and cheaper.

I'll probably get to the mall really early, think I might go see a movie (Sin City) while I'm at the mall, I havn't been to the movies in a long time and figure might as well go as I've got a gift card.

I'll be bringing my camera, some books (non-ROTS to sign) and quite possibly a friend from the West Palm area IIRC.

 

It sounds as if a few of you are going in costume.Perhaps I should go in costume too.If I do go do I need to stay for the whole signing or can I leave whenever I feel like and when exactly does the signing start and end.

 

OK, UDPATE. First.Bam is going to hand out tickets to get your book, sign; if you don't have a ticket you will not get your book sign. They are going to start handing out tickets at 1pm. Second is ok that we wear costumes, the manager was happy when see heard from me today, she tought that we weren't coming and is ok to promote our group in this event. I made new flyers if you want to look at them they are on the yahoo site under files.3rd if you are going in costume say "I'm troopin".

I just talked to someone at BAM and they said they would be handing out numbers tomorrow. They could not tell me if they had a limit on the numbers, though. If they do, is there anyone who could get one for me until I can get there? I don't get off work until late and I live in Fernandina, so it will take me a little while to get there.

 

I see what can I do,I already spoke with the manager and I will see if I can secure couple of numbers.

 

Do you know how many people they are expecting? And also, has anyone been to a book signing before? Whats it like? Do you have to pay for the signature, or just the book?
