ST Everybody and Yo Mama Wants to Be in Ep. VII

Benedict Cumberbatch would be a fantastic choice!

Ever since Sherlock, I've seen him as the successor to British acting greats like Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Christopher Lee, Alec Guinness, Ian McDiarmid, and Peter Cushing. One of those actors who could pull off intellectual theater, yet at the same time is not above appearing in fantasy/sci-fi/horror films.

Seeing as how it has always been Star Wars tradition to cast established European actors to give the film an heir of prestige, Cumberbatch would fit right in with Lee, Guinness, McDiarmid and Cushing. Edit: and Neeson!

I could easily see him as either a Jedi or military officer. Ideally, I'd want him to play a hero though. Perhaps an Imperial officer who changes sides?

 

The difference between Cumberbatch and the rest of those guys is that he hasn't earned that prestige yet. He's an upstart, and only started getting famous recently. I'm coming around to the idea of him playing a military officer or politician or some other supporting character, but SW starring material he is not. If he ends up playing the villain, that would just nail my forehead to the table.

 

Well, every great actor has to start somewhere. I just think that Cumberbatch is off to a great start, and given his past roles and future roles he is definitely making something of himself. I mean, the dude is a freakin' Sherlock Holmes! Some even place him ahead of, or just behind, Basil Rathbone. Not to mention Peter Cushing also played Holmes in the 1959 The Hound of the Baskervilles.

I see a bright future for Cumberbatch and would be happy to see him in ep VII. As for "starring in", I don't think any of the rumors have officially stated that he'd be the star of the film.

So, anyway, about the female Organa/Solo kid rumour who, let's say, doesn't know what Han Solo is her dad because she was away at intergalatic boarding school and doesn't know her father. So she has a scene with Han and something like, "What did your mother tell you about your father?" "She told me enough, I guess." "No... I am your father, kid." Crazy or not crazy enough?

 

I want Joss Ackland to appear as Senator Taughrigg Murr so he can scream "DIP-LOW-MATIC EMU-NITY!" before being cut in half by a lightsaber.

DarthHarmon , your last two posts are spot-on. BC is building a fine acting resume and would be perfect for any number of roles in the ST. And I'm one of those who think BC IS Sherlock Holmes. Never much of a fan until his series with Martin Freeman -- just pure WIN!

Now Cumberbatch, I like what he's done to update what I already knew about Holmes. The funny thing is the no smoking, I really don't know what to think about that. I guess good for you to not hold on to that old tradition. I've seen a few other interesting "whodunit" films he's been in shown on PBS and Netflix, always a supporting character. When I saw he would be Sherlock I thought, meh why not.

If he were to be in the ST I would really like him to be a "good guy". He can play the baddie well but I'd prefer to be rooting for him not against.

I get the rooting for not against aspect. Yet part of the fun is having villains that we love to hate. sometimes his Sherlock his despicable. LOL

Yeah, I just started watching this on Netflix, and it is really good. BC and Martin Freeman are great in it.
