    IC: Galahad

Galahad stood back as the other knight slammed the passing thain into the wall. In truth, Galahad felt rather like joining in, but overall, felt it best to stand back and let the other knight handle this.
A very strange looking man in the wide-brimmed hat worn customarily by the peasant folk walked by, offering an admonishment to the other knight. In fact, Galahad himself was wondering just how far his new acquaintance was going to go to get information. This had passed well beyond the bounds of chivalry.
Just then, with a sudden flash of magical energy, the other knight changed somehow. Strange insignias glowed on his arms, and his eyes burned golden. Galahad's eyes widened, and his hand fell to the hilt of his sword as the newly transformed knight raised a dagger above the helpless thain. While Galahad was ill-disposed toward the rudeness of these people, he thought allowing one to be slaughtered by an enchanted knight was taking the offense a bit far.
At that very moment, yet another man leapt to the scene, seized the other knight, and slammed him against the wall. Galahad could see all of this ending in blood, so he drew his own sword with a flash, shoved the thain to the ground, and said to the two combatants, "Hold!"

    Barney IC:

Barney nodded slowly. Good the kid actually said something. Slowly, very slowly, he set the kid back down on his feet, but still held him, staring into his intensly.

"Right...do you have any idea where this thing is? I'm going to get revenge for Superman, Doomsday is going down..." Barney spoke in a slightly eager whisper.

A lead perhaps? And if not, surely this boy would later run off and tell others that people were coming to challenge Doomsday, word would spread and this thing would hear it...soon enough Barney would be able to kick some ass.

    Lovely.

"Oh whoopy-fragging-do. No offense to you, Navi, but I can't see you tipping the tables in the situation."

"Well, not by brawn I won't, but finding enemy weaknesses is my specialty. Plus I can fly over and talk to the others if we can't find any other way to communicate."

She fluttered around the hilt of the Master Sword, "I'd bet the 'Great Sword of Evil's Bane' would do a number on this Doomsday character. I guess we'll see, eh?"

    IC: Gideon Wyeth

Gideon saw the fight that was breaking out, but ignored it. They had to work their differences out somehow. Gideon, however, planned on scouting out the area. He knelt down and shot back up into the air. Reaching the top of his jump, he began to fall down towards a skyscraper's roof. Landing hard, he stood up and looked around. This city was huge, urban, and it smelled like pollution. The team was going to have a hard time finding this "Doomsday" unless he made himself an easy target. Gideon leaped off of the roof and hit the street below, drawing even more stares. Ah, let 'em look.

    The Dark Prince

The Dark Prince swung with his right arm, aiming for the Punisher's shoulder.

As he did so, he flung his left arm upwards, and let the dagger-tail, a bladed chain, fly up towards a pole hanging over the street.

With some luck, he would be perched on the inches-wide pole in moments.

OOC: To avoid confusion...again...JOHN = Hellblazer. FRANK = Punisher.

IC: JOHN CONSTANTINE and FRANK CASTLE (the Punisher)

John flinched away, and moments before the blade contacted with his arm, his new friend, Frank, came to the rescue.

Bringing his massives arm down, Knife in hand, he knocked down the Princes arm as it moved to stab John, and with a seemless movement, Tiwsted his arm around to hold the blade beneath the man's arm at a particularly soft peice of skin. With one motion, he could stab at the man's heart, or cut one of the major arteries in the arm...either leading to a quick death.

"Listen Ackmed or who ever the Hell you are. We don't kill people...we don't threaten people on the streets...and we definatly don't hurt someone trying to help us." Frank said in his gruff voice, pressing the knife with his right hand, and pushing John away with his left.

    IC: Galahad

The erstwhile knight and the man in the strange suit struggled momentarily, but were interrupted in their duel a moment later by an even odder looking man with a skull emblazoned on his chest.
Galahad was starting to feel dizzy: where there no ordinary warriors in this group of madmen? Galahad, counting on the man with the skull to separate the other two warriors, turned back to the man on the ground, flipping his blade around.
Galahad knelt, and pulled off his helmet, revealing the pale, high-cheekboned face of a young man of perhaps eighteen or nineteen, with golden hair and startlingly blue eyes. He gave the cringing man a piercing look, and brought his sword forward.
"By this blade, I bid thee answer truthfully," said Galahad in an utterly calm voice, just loudly enough for the thain to hear. His blade seemed to shimmer slightly, but it might have been a trick of the light. "Who is Doomsday, and where can I find him?" He held the sword lightly by the blade, so that, by happenstance or by purpose, the overall sword formed a gleaming silver cross. In the depths of the blade, a bright light seemed to glow momentarily, as though the sun was gleaming off of the blood channel, but this could not be; Galahad was in the shadow of a building. Within moments, the sword returned to normal, but strangely enough, a flaming white cross of pure light was reflected in the cowering man's eyes. Galahad's cold blue gaze, on the other hand, reflected nothing, and showed even less.

OOC: Whoops, I thought Frank was already strong-arming the Prince

    IC: The Prince

The Prince, now on the ground, realized his predicament: he let his anger get the best of him.

Through his mouth, the Dark Prince laughed.

"Oh, this will be interesting! Let us see how you Bretons get along with the dear Prince now!" he cackled.

With a jerk, the dark wind died, smoke swept down his body, and the Prince was in control again, gasping.

IC: Debgate, Lara Croft, Tallus, Optimus Prime's cab, Metropolis streets

The sprite defended her corner well enough: "Well, not by brawn I won't, but finding enemy weaknesses is my specialty. Plus I can fly over and talk to the others if we can't find any other way to communicate."
She fluttered around the hilt of the Master Sword, "I'd bet the 'Great Sword of Evil's Bane' would do a number on this Doomsday character. I guess we'll see, eh?"

The Everquest character sniffed at Croft. ?See? Even the wisp isn?t giving up.?

?Hey, you got a plan, I?m all ears.? Lara started to play nervously with her long plait of brown hair.

?We gotta think outside the box.?

    ?What fragging b-?

?Shut up!? Debgate snapped, then to her new ring, ?Hey, Tallus, can you give us information when we ask for it.?

? If I know it, I can tell it. ?

?Great. Lara can fill us in on Superman, and you have told us the salient points of this battle with Doomsday. I want to know about the pre-salient points. Did this Doomsday character just turn up and decide to destroy Superman??

? No, Shaman. He was buried under the earth for an unknown period of time, and just woke and tunnelled his way out. He immediately started a massive swathe of destruction at the point where he emerged. This brought him to the attention of the JLA. ?

Deb? smiled. ?Okay, now we are getting somewhere. Who are the JLA, and how do we contact them??

? JLA. Justice League of America. A disparate band of super heroes who joined forces to fight evil and protect the Earth. Operated out of a sub-orbital base called the JLA Satellite. Contacting them will be difficult, unless either of you is a medium or a necromancer. Their first encounter with Doomsday did not go at all well.?

This was too subtle for Debgate, who not only failed to read between the lines; she didn?t even notice there were lines.

    ?Clarify.?

Lara nudged her friend sadly, ?Pushing up the daisies now.?

?They were wiped, to use a less formal vernacular, the frag out. ? added her disguised Squad Ring.

?Like a hot knife through butter.?

? Kicked the bucket, sleeping with the fishes, shuffled off their mortal coils and joined the choir eternal. They are ex- ?

Deb?, her teeth gritted as she stared through the windscreen, ?Okay, cheers. I think I get it guys. Thank you.?

? You are most welcome, Shaman Debgate. ?

Lara looked like she was getting an idea, or more specifically, thinking about hijacking her partners? one.

?So this JLA place is abandoned now? Empty??

? I expect so, though they may have kept someone manning the place in case they forgot their keys. ?

Deb? turned to the other occupants of the cab. ?Link, Navi. We are going to check this ?JLA Satellite? place out. Wait ten minutes, then you can either tell your Tallus?s to bring you along us, or Optimus can return you to the main group so you can advise them where we have gone. Or you can come with us, right now.?

Lara leaned forwards so that she could see Link as well.

?This satellite sounds like a good place for us to gather our thoughts and make plans. In my case, make up a will or something. And I expect it?ll have databanks full of stuff about Superman and Doomsday. Maybe even the imposters too. Deb?, you ready??

    ?Ready as I?ll ever be.?

Lara quickly pulled her two brown .44 calibre Magnum automatics from her backpack, and handed them to her friend, who in turn, passed one to the Hero of Time.
She then drew the two pistols she habitually wore on her hips.

    ?Tallus? Two to beam up.?

Silence. Moments passed. Still more silence.

The shaman glanced self-conciously at Lara, but the Tomb Raider had other things on her mind; she had spotted a Pizza Hut. She hadn't even known there was one in Metropolis.

"Deb, Link; there is a £5 buffet at Pizza Hut, and I'm buying. We can hardly save the world on an empty stomach, can we? And little Navi can bring word if the rest of the super heroes come up with something."

Glad to have a plan finally, even if it hinged on ignoring the guano predicament that the Timebroker had involved them in, she opened the left door of the now halted truck, and hopped down into the road, looking both ways before leading the Shaman across the street.

    OOC:

Now that you mention it... I got a PM from a player regarding an issue about other characters having knowledge of these other realities. For example, Iron Man had made mention of learning about the King Arthur legend when he spoke with Galahad. And Lara Croft knew who Superman was and mentioned the comic book fans.

As far as having this "cross-franchise" knowledge... I guess we can go along with that. It's bound to happen, if you think about these characters and the worlds they live in. So I'll go along with that. Just use some common sense though, and don't spoil the mission (or the game) for other players.

If another issue comes up, Sithy, I'll let you know. ;)

Now, I'll give your characters something to do:

As the two women hopped out of the TransFormer and headed for a Pizza Hut, there was a `crack` heard in the distance. Then another, and another. Each one was getting louder. Then a figure bursted through the slanted roof of the Pizza Hut, flying horizontally over the semi-truck form of Optimus Prime, and through the wall of the building across the street. The figure, who appeared to be a young male dressed in red and blue spandex, had been flying backward, as if some powerful force had hurled him. The young man now laid in the third floor of the skyscraper across from the Pizza Hut, motionless. The people on the third floor could be seen huddled around the boy.

    IC Batman:

The air smelled of rain, as the fat drops hung like criminals on the gallows, waiting to fall to Earth..

They came out of the movie house, the boy walking ahead of the adults, slashing his ?sword? in a zig-zag pattern that made the shape signifying his favorite hero. Then, he was called back, to walk with Mother and Father. It was too dark for a young boy to walk unescorted, they said. The rain started to fall then, giving the entire scene the patina of a photograph from the turn of the century.

The boy had not a care in the world as they walked down the alley, still imagining himself wearing that cape and mask, defending the helpless.

Suddenly, a man came out of the darkness, and the world changed. In one explosive instant, the world changed forever.

It had happened before, many times before. In fact, it seemed to happen almost every night: the barrel flashed, two lives ended, and a new one began. However many times he re-lived that instant and tried to change it, he was always doomed to failure.

This would be a time just like the others. The man came out of the darkness, demanding money, and reached for Mother?s necklace. There was a struggle, and as the boy watched with terror-stricken eyes, there was a flash, and another one. Then, the man fell to the ground. The gun had fired off into the air over Mother and Father?s heads. Almost immediately, the boy was enfolded in Mother?s loving arms.

Cradled within the embrace, with his eyes closed, the boy heard Mother say, ?Bruce, darling., time is like a river. You can step in at any point and change its course. Remember the Tallus, and all will be well.?

When the boy?s eyes opened, he found himself kneeling in the middle of an empty alley.

    **************

Bruce Wayne awoke to find that his lower body was wrapped in a warm, moist cocoon. He kicked the bed covers to the floor and sat up, placing the heels of his hands over his eyes. It had never gone like that before. He was used to failure in these dreams, not to success. But what kind of success had that been? They had vanished without a trace. What was all of that business at the end, with the river? He had no idea, but he made a note to himself to research the term ?Tallus.?

After a shower, he knew he had no more time to waste. It was time to suit up and get to work.

    (-v-)(-v-)(-v-)(-v-)

The men planning the robbery had no idea they were being watched. The warehouse was lit only by periodic electrical lamps. Nine men, all sporting Russian-made sub-machine guns, made up this crew. If the plan worked, these men would walk away with nearly a quarter of a million dollars worth of electronic equipment, the parts of which could be sold for double that amount on the Gotham black market. The plan would not work.

Batman had known of it, through his various underworld contacts, for weeks, but had elected to let events transpire, for he was hunting bigger prey. He was after those funding this operation. Men such as this could never have afforded nor known how to handle the equipment they were carrying. Though Batman was not yet sure who was funding this operation, he knew who it was not: Organized crime never wasted its time with such small-time antics, and for almost the first time ever, his entire rogues gallery was safely locked away.

Just as he moved forward, he caught a quick glimpse of a pink portal opening up above him, and then he was . . . elsewhere. There was nothing in this nondescript place that could help someone with a keen eye, such as himself, discern any clues about his location. All he could say for sure was that, given how the room seemed to expand in all directions without end, and given that there was light without any visible means of illumination, something either magical or of a science much advanced from Earth?s own was at work.

Whatever this game was, he had no time for it. While he was gone, Gotham was in danger. Mothers and fathers would die, children would be left orphans, and lives would be shattered forever. Never again.

The two ladies jumped out of Optimus and talked about getting some pizza. The thought almost made Optimus laugh -- eating at a time like this? -- until he saw a man in blue flying over his head and crashing into a building. Optimus immediatly transformed into his robot form, now able to tower over everything in the city. He would be able to quickly find the flying man, and then, perhaps, find out what caused him to come flying.

As he transformed, Link was jetisoned from the cab into his hand and Optimus held him up, and offered him two options:

"Link, either I can put you in that building with the flying man, or you can help me determine what caused him to come flying. What say you?"

Both girls ducked instinctively as a red and blue blur crashed out through the roof of of the Pizza Hut they were headed for, and slammed through the side of a building on the opposite side of the street.

"Somebody dial 911!" yelled someone down the street.

"Somebody call a glaziers!" added someone else.

Navi told the team, "You guys check on him. I'll figure out what did that to him, and report back on whether I think we can handle it or not."

Lara said nothing, her eyes following the trajectory of the roof debris as it arced over and hit the street or demolished parked cars, setting off alarms that added their strident noise to the panic on the streets.

Debgate pushed her towards the building where red-and-ble had crashed.

"You go on ahead; I'll catch up."

Lara nodded, knowing she would. Swerving around Optimus, who whad changed into the ninety6-foot monster robot while her back was turned, was striding towards the building in question.

She ran towards the front entrance, moving carefully through the revolving doors into a spacious marble-floored lobby; looked like an office building.

Deb', meanwhile, looked inwards as she selected the spells she would need. Spirit of Wolf certainly, Light Healing, Frost Rift, and Spirit of the Bear. She memorised them all, then cast the first on herself. Very popular in her world, it would allow her to run very fast. A momentary cascade of sparkling blue light, like a convention of wisps, showered over her in concentric circles, then dissipated.

She blurred through into the lobby like Mercury, stopping to cast the same acceleration spell, 'SoW' for short, on her companion, then the two Pixelpuff Girls raced up to the third floor and followed the sound of hysteria to where people were gathered around something.

The shaman shoved her way to see what was going on, "Coming through; give him some air." She bellowed, accidentally, then more deliberately, elbow the shorter humans in the headr when they didn't clear out of her way fast enough.

When she was in 'rescue' mode, all other priorities were rescinded, until the casualty could at least be checked.

For her own part, Croft stepped over rubble and splintered desks and chairs to cross to the gaping hole in the exterior wall.
Avoiding a spurt of boiling weater from a damaged radiator, she leaned against the fragmented brickwork to stare down at the holed restuarant roof.

You have been selected to join this team. If you don't fix the kinks, you will end up with a horrible fate in your own reality."

The Pizza Hut roof was practically destroyed. A huge chunk was missing where the young man crashed through it. The people in the Pizza Hut were looking up, surprised. The hole in the slanted roof was practically horizontal. One could see directly through it to the building behind the pizza place. And even that building had a huge hole taken out of it. Across from the Pizza Hut...

On the third floor of the skyscraper, the young boy amongst all the rubble began to stir. He was in his late teens, probably nearing 20. His hair was in that crew-cut style with the now out-dated stripes on the sideburns from the 1980's. He was thin but muscular, had a good build, and wore red and blue spandex. He wasn't wearing a cape, but he had on a black jacket that was unzipped. The red and yellow "S" insignia was on the spandex on his chest and the also on the back of his jacket.

This young man put a hand to his head and moaned, "Ugghh..." He slowly sat up, pushing the rubble off of him and opened his eyes to see a giant robot outside the building. "Wow... He must have hit me harder than I thought." As he got to his feet, he came face to face with a woman wearing medieval/fantasy-looking armor. "Well, hello," he said smiling, turning on the charm, "Have we met?"

He flicked the cigarette into the pavement and walked up behind the Steel Clan Robot. Turning to the others, he said with his thick accent, "Shouldn't we be doing something a little more constructive? We have to find this `Doomsday`, whoever he may be." He looked at the purple dinosaur further down the sidewalk. "At least he's interrogating people."

Ironman was sent to a strange city. He looked around and saw everyone else had been transported along with him. Then listened to the Timebroker. He wasted no time in powering up his suit and rocketing into the sky. He was going to search high and low for this "Doomsday". Eliminate him. Then get back to his city...

"Shouldn't we be doing something a little more constructive? We have to find this `Doomsday`, whoever he may be," said a tall man with a brittanic accent.

Galahad waited for a reply from the thain, but the man proved unexpectedly weak-minded, quailing before his blade, and running away. Galahad sighed as he got heavily to his feet, replacing his helmet, and sheathing his sword. "Certainly, good sir. 'Tis what I was thinking of myself."

"At least he's interrogating people," said the other man, looking down at a very odd-looking purple being, with some slight resemblance to a dragon. Galahad shrugged, nodded, and said, "Lead on, sir, for my skills come to naught in this land." He put two fingers in his mouth, and gave a shrill whistle. The young knight's horse (who had been taking advantage of the opportunity to single-hoofedly mow a nearby lawn with its teeth) raised its head, and trotted over (fortunately without straying into traffic). Galahad mounted, and with a casual flick of the reins, sent his steed cantering toward the purplish being.

OOC: Thanks, Sith_I_5. You're not doing bad yourself. In fact, pretty much all the writing I see is showing promise for the characters.

(ooc: Dubya, I had intended for Navi to see what was in Pizza Hut, not just look at the hole. I'm guessing it's the bad imposter, as the Wiki article on Doomsday implies he would do a lot more damage to a Pizza Hut than that, but I'll wait for your next post)

    IC: Link

Link saw the poor guy get up and moan, then start talking to De...wait, how did she get there so fast? Faeore's Wind? Not likely. Warp Song? Like what, the Ballad of the City? Yeah right.

Optimus' hand was close enough that Link could do a quick roll-jump, which was slightly longer than a regular jump, grab the edge of the hole the man had made, and pull himself up.

He stood next to Debgate, not wanting to bother the boy, whom Link noticed couldn't have been much older than him, while he was introducing himself to her.
