Lit Explain something to a lazy reader...

At the end of Star by Star, Luke hands Leia a 'piece of flimsiplast'. There seems to be some significance to this, as it's mentioned several times; only, I have no clue what this is supposed to be. Does anybody know?

If we are asking questions, here's my half remembered question from 8-9 years ago: in Tatooine Ghost, Leia finds a datapad or something under Obi-Wan's hut and can't unlock it. I assumed at the time that Denning was setting something up for Dark Nest, but as far as I recall this didn't happen. Was this another Jacen's tassels Kessel explosion or was I attaching more significance to this thing that otherwise didn't seem to go anywhere in Tatooine Ghost, or was it resolved in that book and I forgot/missed it?

 

It ended up being referenced in Ryder Windham's The Life of Luke Skywalker - basically Luke opened it, read it, and left it behind when he was done with it as I recall. It was Obi-Wan's notes.

I believe The Life and Legend of Obi-Wan Kenobi also mentions it- when Luke learns how to make a lightsaber- that's what he learns it from.

 

Well, that is in Shadows of the Empire. So Leia found the same thing? I thought they were distinct since I seem to recall Obi-Wan's hologram mentioning the UR before requesting a password Leia didn't have. In SotE, I think Luke had a physical book that was biometrically locked and would self destruct if someone other than Luke opened it.

I remember at some convention (C3, maybe?) Denning explicitly said it was going to lead to something in a future book, but obviously that apparently got forgotten.
