I'd say linen for the outer tunic and pleather or real leather for the tabs.

    Linen-

Dye if there's no brown there-

Some people say that the fabric for the Jedi tunics is silk, dharma trading has some nice silk for dyeing for a good price, I'd say raw silk or silk noil.

    pleather-

I am trying to redo my tabards and belt, but I can't decide on materials. I used that website you showed.

I agree with linen. All my Jedi tunics are made of linen. Here is another source for linen. They have 2 dark browns right now and also some tans. The light and medium weights are OK. Don't get handkerchief linen for anything but the undertunic, it's practically see-through.

However, read what Dharma says about dying linen. My costume expert-friends have told me linen does not dye well. Silk, yes, definitely. Raw silk, or silk noil, would be another option for tunics. Thai Silks has colors so you don't have to even dye.

That Denver Fabric faux leather looks excellent! I browsed that site and found some very good options for wool for a new robe. Have ordered swatches.

Crinkled rayon is good for the outer tunic, while linen is good for the inner tunic.

I concur, every time I tried to dye linen it seemed a bit patchy, not sure if it was my dying technique or that's how it dyed. Strangely enough, I dyed something brown last month, tea-dyed it, and it actually came out more even in color than more aged and patchy, so *shrugs* but dyeing linen yourself is good if you want that natural worn look to your costume.
