Put karo syrup (a kind of corn syrup) in a bowl and add non-dairy creamer. Then you add some red food coloring and a drop of blue food coloring for density. Hope that helps.

You guys are making this too hard. ;)

Here's a good recipe for "runny" blood:

    1) light corn syrup
    2) flour (just a little bit)
    3) red and blue food coloring

    For "non-runny" blood:

    1) red and blue cake frosting colorant (can be found in candy/cake decorating stores and most grocery stores)

When mixing, make it darker than you think it should be so it looks real on film.

DO NOT use the fake blood capsules (or any kind of fake blood) from halloween stores. It'll look like you've been chewing on pink crayons if you make a bloody lip.

WalMart is carrying 1Qt bottles of fake blood right now, with Halloween coming up. It's a little under $4 a bottle.

That is...if you're in the US

Have fun. (just clean up after. ;) )

Is it possible to get Corn Syrup in Australia? I've never found any.

And if not, what's a good substitute?

Tip: for blood in a DEEP cut, make it a MUCH DARKER red than blood from a SHALLOW CUT.

also, DEEP cuts have THICKER BLOOD than shallow cuts.

SHALLOW CUTS tend to have more SPLATTERS than DEEP CUTS.

Also, for DEEP CUTS, vaseline (petrolium jelly i think it is in the US) and dark red food colouring is good.

don't forget to add bits of "flesh" for effect, if that's the scene.

the best thing is to experiment, just go with what looks good.

don't forget, Hitchcock used Chocolate syrup for the Psycho shower scene, it looked more realistic on black and white film.

    anwyay,

    Nick "Shorty" Long

(squashed tomatoes in dark fluids are good for body pulp, as is soggy tissue)

My recipe which came out of Bruce Campbell's autiobiography in the Evil Dead section is for gallons of blood on a low budget. The corn syrup is the base. The creamer is the liquid, the stuff that will change colors. And the red food coloring is for the red color and the blue is for density. I found that putting some strawberry jam in it is good to make it thick.

    Twisted_Hero,

What section was it in? Was it with the other syrups, like maple and so on?

I've found that corn syrup is horrible to clean up. So sticky.

The recipe I use is blue liquid starch with red food coloring. Don't use it for mouth blood of course. You can make a gallon of it for just a couple dollars.
