    Falling from Grace

Since the war with the Huk began, no one could have begun to imagine the chaos that would ensue. Of course they knew with all war came its casualties, its widows and orphans, its crippled veterans, but this, this was worse. The Yam?rii, known as the ?Huk? to the Kaleesh, were insect-like creatures that had always had a preying eye on the Kaleesh. That soon escaladed, and suddenly, with no warning at all, they came.

Originally, it was supposed to be a simple raid on the Kaleesh. They did not expect a struggle from them, most likely because they were primitive in appearance, with only simple spears and swords, sticks compared to the sophisticated technology of the Yam?rii. Once their raid was finished, they would trash the planet and sell their captives into slavery without a blink of an eye. They did not expect any sort of uprising from their part, but unfortunately, the will of the Kaleesh was stronger than any weapon they could possess.

The semi-nomadic culture of the Kaleesh had led them to fracture into separate tribes. Disputes often led to battles, the loosing tribe would often be allowed to assimilate, or for the less merciful tribes, be executed. Once the war begun, the Kaleesh quickly realized that their fractured society would be easily crushed, and, in an act that seemed to be unbelievable, they ended all disputes with their enemies and united for a common purpose. Enemies fought against enemies, and together, it seemed, they could actually win this war. Unfortunately, not even the ties of brotherhood could prevent the large number of casualties on their side.

Many of the Kaleesh had considered surrendering to the Yam?rii, most in the hope that the intruders would be merciful, that a life of a slave did include being fed and given a home, albeit loosing one?s freedom. There had been betrayals as well. As the death toll leaped from hundreds to thousands, hope was beginning to run dry among the people.

Then, a young and charismatic soldier sprung from the ashes. He was from a long line of warriors, his grandmother being an exalted warrior from the Bitthaevrians. Many had known him to be very talented with the sniper rifle, and at a young age of ten having already killed of many of the Huk. He had become an orphan after a raid on their town, but had still proven a capable soldier in the army.

He came with the promise to save the Kaleesh from doom, claiming that he was a descendant of a god. He already had a team of close companions, known as the Elite, who supported him with their lives. His closes companion was female mercenary, known as Ronderu lij Kummar. Some suspected that he was in love with her; many others believed them to be long lost siblings. Whatever the case had been, they were always seen side-by-side, inseparable. Many people had cast him out as a false prophet, while many others trusted him to win the war for the Kaleesh. After all, he was the promise of hope they had left.

What could they possibly have to loose?

    It was the final front.

Qymaen knew, deep inside, that this would be the end of their struggles with the Yam?rii. He already suspected that the Huk would soon leave. They had never planned for this to be a war, and their resources were beginning to dwindle. They had already slaughtered many of the Kaleesh, but were beginning to realize they were more trouble than they were worth. Hopefully then, they would leave the Kaleesh alone, and go off and try to enslave another planet, whoever the unlucky souls may be. Honestly, it didn?t affect Qymaen in the lightest; he had his own people to worry about. People who were dying in droves from starvation and disease that the Huk had unsuspectingly brought u
