I'm new to the Fan Art world! I have no clue how to use Photoshop (I have version 6), so these are MS Paint drawings! Most of them are art for fics.

Hello FanakinSolo. Your link appears to point to your GMail mailbox. You cannot link to images in attachments there because no one can log into your mail account to see them! Try a free imagehosting service like www.imageshack.us to post your pictures and set up a link to there.

Also, if you have Photoshop at all you should try playing with it and ditch MS Paint as soon as possible. As you grow your skills as an artist, the increased versatility will be extremely enjoyable.

    Welcome to the forum!

Ahaa... the Episode V made me laugh =)

    Welcome to the forum! ;)
The hint about computer drawings is: not to use the computer, actually. It all starts with the pen and pencil technique... Oh, and get a scanner, and only then will you be able to do wonders with a computer!

Hey FanakinSolo, welcome to Fan Art!

I commend you on all the work you're doing with Paint--I don't do any digital myself, but have heard Paint is a notoriously difficult program to do anything in. I agree with Daenna that working first in the traditional media is usually a good way to go: getting a good feel for drawing anything with pencil or pen on paper is a good start to then translating those skills to digital. You seem to have a good sense of composition in most of your pieces--I'm going to give you a few links to check out for drawing properly proportioned figures and faces, tho--I think if you copy some of them down and keep them handy for reference when you draw (on paper or digitally) you'll find they'll be of tremendous help in developing your skills and your eye. Check out this page, this page, this page and this page--these are general references for realistic human figure and head proportions (which I usually keep handy at all times!).

Also take a look at here for some more basic figure-forms--the tutorials for figure drawing and for hands have been a godsend for me. You certainly display all the enthusiasm necessary for progressing in your art, and we're glad to have you in the forum. Again, welcome!

UPDATED! I was digging through my Photobucket account and found a bunch of sigs I had made with Paint. And on the request card: I DO take requests for fics and art. But, please, one at a time... I have 57485663483465 WIPs.

Okay, I tried out some techniques from FF's last link on some paper with a pencil. I moved on to draw a kid, Jango/Boba, and this alien guy. Now I just need a scanner. Any advice on any good scanners? Also, I might need some help on uploading them nicely.

**is pleased that the links were helpful!**

    :D

Glad you decided to try your hand at the good ol' traditional media, Fanakin! As to a scanner, they can be had pretty cheaply any more--some very basic units that are combination copier/scanner will run anywhere from $80 to $120 US. My suggestion would be to hit the net, check out some websites for electronics and also, to visit some of the electronics stores in your area--sales are best! Be sure to take along your system specs when you shop, so you'll have that info for the salesperson (you want to make sure you get a unit that's compatible with your current OS and hardware). Scanners are great tools, and if you get one that can copy as well, it's even more useful. Uploading to a site like Photobucket would be the same process you use for the sigs/wallpapers/pics you've already uploaded--just make sure that when you save your scanned drawings that you save them in a "web ready" format--this will minimize file size and keep you from exceeding your hosting site bandwidth. I can't wait to see your sketches! :D
