Well im not sure if I am going, I may only go one day. it all depends on the little bundle of joy what will be about one week old or so by the time this con comes around. I know I have one co-worker buggin me about going. most people think I should dust off not only the 501st gear but also Dr Evil and Listerine as well. If I go it will be in costume.

So, am I reading that right? Isn't Buzz Aldrin the man who walked on the moon?

Second man actually (there were several IIRC) but still significant enough that this is awesome.

Yeah, there was only a couple of them who did the moon walk, and it's not like our lame-duck scape program is ever going to get anyone else up there.

I will most likely not be there for SFX, but I might hafta look into seeing if someone can get his autograph for me.

Bit of trivia according to a special I once watch Buzz was suppose to be first but do to some sort of mix up Neil ended up being first. I cannot recall the mix up details.

That doesn't make sense. Neil Armstrong was Mission Commander. The crew schedules were worked out several months in advance, so once it was decided that Apollo 11 would be the mission that landed, it was known right then that Neil would be the person who would make the first step.

For the record, reviewing my post I meant "lame-duck SPACE" program, lol

Actually I recall hearing that Aldren was supposed to go first, and it was later changed. But then again I hear about how the moon landing was faked as well so what do I know? :p

Maybe where they sat was the factor after all if Neil was closer to the door why would Buzz go first. Are not the controls in the capsule identical/backups so if one control panel had a problem they would have no worries since they would have another control panel to use.

But then again, if Neil was put in charge of the mission, you would think he would have the honor of going first. So who knows?

Maybe they drew straws or flipped a coin?

Wasn't the TV showing of the first step staged as they had already stepped on the moon?

Well, I met a guy this weekend who just documents Nasa archives for a living. He went on and on about some moron who's been perpetuating the lame conspiracy theory that they really didn't go to the moon. He told stories about how this guy would accost people like Buzz and make them swear on a bible that they've stood on the moon and harass these heroes to the point of forceable removal. If you think the lunar landing was a conspiracy and faked, I have some nice sweet land in Florida that you might be interested in.

Like Polaris, I'd come to the breakfast, or any room parties that might happen, but I don't think I'll be able to attend the con itself.
