(6/30/15) 17. What roles do love and affection play in your life?

It takes a while for me to either warm up to others, or allow them to warm up to me. And that really depends on the person, as some people just send out signals that bother me. There are people whom I just get the wrong feelings and can never relax around them.

Though, once I let people into my little fold, I care deeply about them. I don't want any harm to come to them and I want to take all their negative energy and bad feelings away from them so that they're happy. I may not be very physically affectionate and I'm not gonna sit there and say a whole bunch of schmaltzy sweet nothings, but I do care about people.

I'm much more affectionate around animals. Point me to your pet and I will cuddle them.

(7/1/15) 18. When did you last cry in front of another person? By yourself?

A couple days ago, actually. It was around Mabel, so by myself. The reason I was crying was pretty stupid.

(6/30/15) 17. What roles do love and affection play in your life?
I don't know. I am more comfortable giving than getting and I have a problem recognising love and affection in general, regardless of where it comes from. I approach people with either too much trust or unnecessary prejudice and I am yet to find balance here. As a friend, I tend to give too much and receive nothing*, so I feel most comfortable around people who are as much of givers as I am, or even better than me, to the point where I strive to be like them.

    * Not that this is the point of a friendship, just explaining what happens to me in nine out of ten cases.

(7/1/15) 18. When did you last cry in front of another person? By yourself?
I cried at an Anastacia concert last night, when she sung "Sick and Tired". Since I am not sure if anybody noticed, that counts as both.

(7/2/15) 19. What, if anything, is too serious to be joked about?
Anything that the other person is ticked off by and not comfortable with. In general, racism, rape, abuse.

Listening to your conciseness will usually tell you what that is. Whether you listen to it or not is your brain's job.

Nothing whatsoever. You'd be surprised what a well-crafted and -delivered joke can do to diffuse a difficult situation.

(7/2/15) 19. What, if anything, is too serious to be joked about?

I would say the brutal murder of a baby wouldn't be something you would joke about...mainly because a baby hasn't had the time to develop a personality that could justify a joke. We joke about people dying all the time, whether they were hated, or did something incredibly stupid to get themselves killed or your at a funeral and you are joking about something funny about the deceased to ease the tension. I don't know, maybe all the dead baby jokes I heard in the 70s just grossed me out. I guess it was a fad back then.

Damn! I just saw a funny dead baby joke:

(7/2/15) 19. What, if anything, is too serious to be joked about?
I think it really depends on the situation and the people who are around for the jokes. In health care, we tend to have a very morbid sense of humor, because it defuses very difficult situations. (My family also has that, my parents would always tell me, "Try not to kill anyone tonight." before I'd go to work when I was living with them.) But those jokes are never around the patients or their families. Sometimes jokes are used to bring attention to things that might not otherwise get attention (see some of the things that Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and John Oliver have done.) and they can be very powerful.

I'm going on vacation in just a few days and I've got a lot I'm trying to get done before then, so that thread is going to be on hold until I get back. We can talk about it more then. :)

I missed a couple, but I gotta answer this one:

Nothing. Sure there is a time and a place. I wouldn't be the person joking about Hitler at a Holocaust memorial; there is such thing as tact and respect when it is needed. Even the great satirical comics like John Stewart and John Oliver know this. However, (and Jedi_Lover needs to read this story) dead baby jokes are hilarious, particularly at funerals.

I've been to 3 funerals in my short life, 2 of them were for people who died tragically young). I killed myself laughing at my father's funeral, we laughed at my grandfather's funeral and we laughed at my friend's funeral. A friend of mine took her own life just before turning 21. This friend loved dead baby jokes. I once sat next to her in a bus for 10 hours, and she told MANY dead baby jokes. Her favourite was "what is worse than 10 dead babies nailed to 10 trees? 10 dead babies nailed to 1 tree. What is even worse? 1 dead baby nailed to 10 trees". So at her funeral, we had an open mic where her grandmother suggested we share our favourite memories, stories, etc of her. A mutual friend tried to convince me to share the how the deceased friend and I nearly got sent home from a band trip for a mid-night tampon run. I said I'd only do it if she would share Krys' favourite joke. I didn't even have to say the joke and everyone at the table who was on the bus, burst out in laughs, because we all knew it was the 10 babies joke. I was crying I was laughing so hard. THANKFULLY no one actually said the joke, but we all knew we were damned to hell for laughing at a dead baby joke at a funeral.

(7/3/15) 20. Your house, containing everything you own, catches fire. After saving your loved ones and pets, you have time to safely make a final dash to save any one item. What would it be? Why?

Laptop, to save my fanfic and pictures.

First off I have to say... DON'T GO DASHING BACK INTO A HOUSE WHEN IT'S ON FIRE.
I've seen way too many awful things happen to people that did that. Don't do it. [/public service announcement]

That being said, it would be my laptop because it has so many of my pictures.

(7/4/15) 21. Would you be willing to have horrible nightmares for a year if you would be rewarded with extraordinary wealth?

It depends on what kind of nightmares. If it's the kind I normally have right now, the kind that are kinda scary, but when you wake up and are fine, then sure! But if we're talking waking up screaming and having a hard time getting over it, I'd have to ponder on that a little bit longer.

Lucky, all of you. I have important stuff on my DESKTOP. [face_cow]

And yes to the last question. A clean bill of health allows me to say it.

If the fire were contained within my condo, it's small enough that I would choose to try and fight the fire with the two large extinguishers in the house. I've got way too much crap that I've spent way too much money on to just sit back and let it burn.

(7/4/15) 21. Would you be willing to have horrible nightmares for a year if you would be rewarded with extraordinary wealth?

With the proviso that I could surrender if they became too much to bear, yes I would. Putting up with nightly mares would be an interesting test of my character and mental stamina, and if living through it didn't break me, it would make me into a much stronger human being. The wealth would be an ancillary benefit, but it would all be worth it just for the conditioning alone.

Extraordinary wealth can buy lots of doctors and psychiatrists. Sure, if meant solidifying my family's future, then yes.

I used to suffer from nightmares and night terrors as a kid. I learned to deal with them by learning how to lucid dream. Now, I lucid dream so much that no dream is beyond my control.

I am an oneiromancer. Bring it.

Um, no. I had fire safety drilled into my head as a kid and we were always taught that once you got out, you stay out. That being said, I'd probably want to grab the small box I have of pictures and a letter from my dad on my way out. Everything else, including my laptop, can be replaced.

Yes. I don't remember my dreams anyways, but even for some reason if I did, I can run on very little sleep for a year if it meant being able to afford sleep specialists and all that afterwards.

Also, bit of an update - Mav is going to be MIA for the next few weeks. Since this is her baby, I think we are just going to take a few weeks' break from any sort of AMA before she decides what is next. However, if you have missed any of the daily Q's, feel free to go back and answer them.

Are there any plans to get this back up and running? I realize that NaNoWriMo is currently eating up a lot of people's time, but once schedules calm down a bit in a month or two, it would be nice to see some life breathed back into this thing. (Hmm... life... breathing... sounds like a task for mavjade! ;))

I hereby volunteer as subject or Question Master, whichever direction we go (assuming we don't decide to go with a totally different format). :)

Sorry, it's up to me, as I need to send the proposal to the mods. The last couple of months have been weird and I needed some fresh air, plus some things sort of drew me away from wanting to talk to specific people, since I kind of hold grudges. :p I promise to get this done this weekend and, from that point on, we'll see what happens.

But what I had in mind is cool, I promise. Plus, they will like it too, because it's one obligation less for them and all.

I know exactly how that is. So donĀ“t you worry, Ewok Poet. Just wrote else where:

"It seems that I miss jolly good & spicy updates each time RL has me in its grip: hosting old friends, going to the movies, having game evenings with new friends, my activities as a kindergarten teacher (= year planing of the kindergarten year with the rest of the team & the chair persons, parental evening for all parents, lantern making, parental evening just for the group, long weekly team meetings, supervision sessions with my team), being the fitness centre for either my two fitness programs, my Yoga course, my spine gymnastics course or wellness moments, meeting other SW fans in Berlin, visiting my family & having special evenings at home just with my husband."

But each time I can, I lurk around in this thread.
