Thanks. Both the bride and the groom are actually lawyers so jury duty probably wouldn't add distress (lawyers are almost never chosen). And it is actually surprisingly easy to even get a deferral to a summons (or even get exempt all together... I know from personal experience), with right documentation/evidence.

But I really want it to be something to do with the wedding. Do you know of any specific cultural clashes they had?

Money can cause problems. He wants a lavish reception, she’d rather keep it small and put that money toward a house- that kind of thing is always stressful. Even if they can afford it, the issue gets to their values and personalities.

When things happen that you can’t control: bad weather, lost shipments of That Really Critical Thing, other people’s interference. The important part is that you did everything right but it still blew up in your face. The beachside venue flooded. The bridesmaid dresses came in and the color is ... unexpected. Those things.

Maybe a disagreement about what the bride and groom say for their vows?

The disagreements were serious, given the Italian v. German sentiments directly after WWII that carried over to American relations. Some members of each family refused to attend, but the wedding was still large and absorbed the discord.

Time of day might be a small sticking point, morning v. afternoon weddings, or day of the week, like Saturday or Sunday being primo days. Shouldn't think to get many guests on a weekday ... "Of course I'll take off work to serve in your wedding party as Holder of the Guest Book!"[face_clown]

This evenings riddle... I need a small catastrophe. Not a real disaster but something that a child would consider as a disaster, but would make an adult laugh. Suggestions are appreciated. Even if I don't necessarily use the suggestions it may kick the butt of my brain cells so I can think of something myself.

I... actually don't have any at the moment. Most of the stress just comes from having to deal with so many people! :p Though my soon to be mother-in-law is obsessed with me picking out her dress and despite me saying "I'd like it to be long, otherwise wear whatever you love" she keeps sending me dresses and asking my opinion. I love that she wants to do what I want, but it's driving me nuts!
So maybe something with a soon to be parent-in-law that's driving the other crazy and it ends up a bit of a fight between the bride and groom??

They are trying to open something and it 'explodes' all over them, so they are covered in something (food based??) which causes a meltdown?

+ Briannakin Re weddings as large as they get, today's Royal Wedding had drama re the question of whether or not Her New Royal Highness' dad would attend. Fear of publicity maybe could complicate an attendee's plans in the fic? Or is that too potentially traumatic re the mood of the piece?[face_nail_biting]

Thanks all. I've found inspiration in Diva's suggestion with money (his family has it and her's doesn't) and combined it with the classic question: chicken or fish.

So I've got question here. I've read the rules on violence in fics on this site, and I'm writing a piece that has some moderate violence. It doesn't go to the extent that I think warrants a warning in the fic, and the examples of violence in the rules far exceed what I'm writing. But I am a bit wary of posting it without warning because the violence in question is being inflicted on a woman by a man, in a prisoner situation (she's a captured combatant and he's the captor, questioning her through violent means). Just writing it made me feel a bit uneasy, and I'm wonder if anyone has suggestions on how to present it?

@Vialco, from the way you describe the scene and then nature of the violence, I think at least a little warning at the start of the chapter would not go amiss. What I’d recommend, if you have any doubts, is to bounce the scene off our mods, @Briannakin and @mavjade , before posting. They’re always willing to check on things like this for authors here; I’ve done the same before with them with a scene I had doubts about, and they were very helpful.

Thanks, @Findswoman . I think I will bounce that entire book off them, as it does get a bit mature in terms of the violence. Nothing that we didn't see in Clone Wars, but it is definitely more mature than anything Rebels ever gave us.

Just a note, while we are happy to look over anything you might be unsure about and to answer any questions about mature themes, sending us an entire fic might take us awhile to get though depending on length. Sending us scenes that you are concerned with is a better idea. Though if it's nothing worse than what is in Clone Wars, you should be fine. But we are still here if you are unsure.

@CaraJinn - there were, what I consider to be an evil series of videos, prompted by a talk show host, I think; where parents filmed their child reacting to being told that the parent had eaten all their Halloween candy.

[face_laugh]Haha, I need to google that series. I don't think it will fit my plot (I want little Obi-Wan to have one of his "bad feelings" and I'm not sure they had so much Halloween sweets in the creche) but thanks anyway.

Oh yes, I want to be respectful of your time. When the time comes closer, I will probably just ask your opinions on the specific scene. But it's good to know that if it's nothing worse than Clone Wars, I should fine. My main concern was that the scene depicts a grown man physically punching and striking a nineteen-year old girl. Which in itself isn't too violent, but the general idea is a bit disturbing.

All right, everyone: established characters, in either Legends or Canon continuities, whose home, homeworld, people, civilization, or any combination of those things were destroyed or near-destroyed by the Empire or similar evil forces—go! (I’ve already got Leia, Zeb, and Bodhi.)

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Dorsk_81 and http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Dorsk_82 - Admiral Daala led an attack on their homeworld that seems to have been pretty bad, though it was not completely destroyed. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Khomm/Legends

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Mara_Jade_Skywalker - seems very possible given her established (lack of) backstory

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Haruun_Kal/Legends (homeworld of Mace Windu and http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Nick_Rostu) - the Empire bombarded at least some parts of the planet, though again the outcome is somewhat unclear

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Tyria_Sarkin_Tainer - she was the last Antarian Ranger after the Empire killed most/all of the others from her settlement, if I'm recalling correctly

Tycho Celchu, Winter, etc. - more characters from Alderaan

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Zev_Senesca/Legends - the Empire destroyed his home, though it was a space station rather than a planet

Wedge Antilles - another destroyed space station, though in this case it was pirates

Finn from the sequel trilogy - not confirmed but seems pretty likely from how he grew up that the New Order did something to his homeworld (maybe not destroyed, but probably occupied or something)

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Rillao and Tigris from the Crystal Star - their homeworld was destroyed and most of the people killed except for those on a few sleeper ships

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Rukh/Legends and other Noghri characters - homeworld not destroyed completely, but the Empire definitely kept the planet in a state of environmental collapse

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Shada_D'ukal - Emberlene was devastated by a mercenary army in return for their attacks on other worlds, but Shada and others were told the Empire was responsible (this is a weird one)

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Elegos A'Kla and other Caamasi characters - Caamas was destroyed by the Empire with the aid of Bothans who sabotaged the planetary shields

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Destroyed_planets may be of use too, though not all those planets have an associated character
