All their character-specific cards portray the ships instead of the people, so not much of a missed opportunity. :p

I understand, I guess I am more confused that General A'baht is in an E-wing starfighter. IIRC, he was a capital ship man (commanded a Dornean gunship at the Battle of Endor) and I don't recall any reference to him having a background as a pilot. Even if he is a pilot, by the time the E-wing was available he would of been firmly ensconced in the Fleet Command structure.

Yes, I know I am overthinking this, but the Fleet Junkie in me can't help it. :p

I am the only one who really want's them to make a few Uglies? I mean there is already the E-Wing, why not go with the better looking Uglie designs like the Clutch, TIE-Wing, Chir'daki or one of these

Really love the TIE Phantom, is that first time we have gotten a model of one in any form?

If we can have Royal Guards piloting TIE Interceptors through interstellar space, I think we can handle a NR Admiral/General doing it. Also, see the countless Jedi Generals and General Grievous. All with their own fighters.

I've loved the E-wing since the early 90s.

Cool seeing these, but I am really weary of the TIE Defender. It has an Action Fleet and two separate diecast versions already -- we didn't need another one. I'd have rather seen a TIE Avenger, Assault Gunboat, or a Missile Boat. Lame.

Cool to see the E-wing in tiny form this time, and nice to see the Headhunter again (getting a Titanium Z-95 was a great surprise). The TIE Phantom is cool too, although I have too many memories of blowing up in Rebel Assault II to ever be fond of it.

Uh, it's not exactly unusual for part of the Imperial Guard to fly interceptors. Generally Guards units include soldiers and airmen. We already know about the Emperor's Sword, as well as a House division of Gunboats. There's no indication that every guardsman can fly, just that the Imperial Guard includes pilots.

Yay, E-wing! I'm surprised that they bothered with the E-wing as its a post-RotJ era fighter (really nice to hear it described as having the best parts of the X-wing and A-wing), so was half-expecting it to just be tossed out of canon in a year or two. The rest are nice models, glad to see them producing more EU ships.

Yeah that's a good point -- FFG's main RPG is set during the trilogy, but the inclusion of the E-wing is an interesting choice for their starfighter game. Maybe we'll be lucky and see more EU.

The card game is going to be introducing a lot of EU in the next series of Force packs.

Given that Kir Kanos and Carnor Jax, who are not primarily pilots, are seen in Royal Interceptors, I assume that most Guardsmen receive combat pilot training. Minimally, all Sovereign Protectors. Whether or not they flew very often is another story.

Tangentially related, I wonder if Palpatine used battle meditation to help his escorts in combat...

There is also an Emperor's Shield squadron also tasked with Guard duty.

Yes, my point wasn't that the guards could fly, it was to highlight that it's not unusual to expect higher officers to be able to fly a fighter. With navicomputers and astromechs it's easier to fly than real life fighters, I bet. Not having to worry about hovering capabilities like on the Harrier helps, too.

Of course the only example of that is from this same game. Sigh.

The contortions we have to go through...

Oh yes the memories of playing Rebel Assault II over and over again, though yet another ridiculous and sad end for another star dreadnought[face_sigh]

I can't wait to pick up the TIE Phantom and the TIE Defender, boy I hope they are working on some of the bigger capital ships next

If I recall, prior to the Battle of N'zoth A'baht offers Luke Skywalker his personal E-wing and command of "Red E" squadron for the battle, which indicates that he was qualified to fly the E-wing.

While he's never specifically shown in any piloting context, it is mentioned that he has his own personal E-Wing stationed on his flagship.

With each new thing FFG does, I become even more interested in getting everything they are making, especially the three RPGs and X-Wing Miniatures.

I plan to skip the Force based RPG, unless it has awesome art and fluff...

...guess I will be getting it. It's FFG.

From the Age of Rebellion description:

"Extensive background information on the Star Wars universe, including a history of the Rebel Alliance"

Uh oh, FFG. You just walked into a minefield.

I'd like to think so, but my black-hearted cynical nature isn't sold.

I'm thinking that it'll be more of "Clone Wars end, Empire is born, the incident at Ghorman, some other stuff happens, Corellian Treaty."
