Saga Favorite "Act" in the individual movies of the saga.

I believe that the individual movies of the saga can be broken down into acts, just like a play.

For example, I would say ANH has 3 distinct acts:

Act 1: The opening crawl up to the falcon's hyperspace jump
Act 2: From the hyperspace jump to the falcon's escape from the Death Star
Act 3: The battle of Yavin.

I was just wondering what is your favorite "Act" in the saga.

I am going to say Act 3 of ROTS is my favorite, which for me starts with Anakin's turn, and ends with Beru and Owen looking at the Binary Suns. I have a few more that are battling with this act for supremacy, I just want to see what other opinions people have with regards to this topic

If you want to discuss what constitutes the "acts" of each movie, feel free. I am struggling to define how many acts are in both ROTS and TPM and where they begin/end.

 

I've thought a lot about breaking the movies into acts, and I'm not sure if I agree with the three-act breakdown. Lucas likes to begin his movies in the middle of the action/story, with a sort of prologue, before the actual story begins, and you can see that more or less in every SW movie.

I'd break each movie into four parts:
-"Prologue": action/mystery, we don't get to know the characters, we just follow them.
-First act: the quiet act, where the characters are properly developed and the main plot is properly introduced.
-Second act
-Third act.

ANH
-Prologue: the Imperial attack on Leia's ship.
-Act 1: Tatooine
-Act 2: Death Star recue.
-Act 3: The final assault.

TESB (not sure about this)
-Prologue: Luke's rescue and the Hoth battle?
-Act 1: asteroid field chase, arrival to Dagobah, until the cave scene?
-Act 2: arrival to Bespin, Luke leaves. ("there is another")
-Act 3: the confrontation at Bespin.

ROTJ
-Prologue: the whole Jabba the Hutt sequence (not connected to the rest of the story).
-Act 1: the Emperor arrives, Yoda dies, the Rebels explain their plan, ends with the arrival on Endor (luke-Vader connection).
-Act 2: Adventures on Endor (clearly lighter than the first act, which is pretty serious), ending with the Vader-Luke scene.
-Act 3: The final battle.

TPM
-Prologue: everything until they leave Naboo.
-Act 1: Tatooine (this is the quiet act where the characters are properly developed)
-Act 2: Coruscant
-Act 3: Battle of Naboo

AOTS
-Prologue: Coruscant section, until the end of the chase
-Act 1: Anakin and Obi-Wan get their missions, Kamino and Naboo.
-Act 2: Anakin on Tatooine, Obi-Wan on Geonosis, ends with the senate scene.
-Act 3: Battle of Geonosis.

ROTS
-Prologue: Palpatine's rescue.
-Act 1: ends with the Padme's ruminations scene (anakin's decission).
-Act 2: Anakin's choice, ends with "Anakin is the father"/Anakin on Mustafar.
-Act 3: the final duel.

 

I'd define the acts as these for each movie(feel free to disagree):

Episode 4- I'll agree with you

Episode 5-
Act 1- Hoth
Act 2- Asteroid chase to before arriving at Bespin(including Luke's training on Dagobah)
Act 3- Bespin

Episode 6-
Act 1- Tatooine/Jabba's Palace
Act 2- from the Emperor arriving at the Death Star to the Luke surrendering to Vader on Endor
Act 3- The Battle of Endor

Episode 1
Act 1- Naboo
Act 2- Tatooine & Coruscant
Act 3- the Battle of Naboo

Episode 2-
Act 1- Coruscant
Act 2- Naboo, Kamino, and Tatooine
Act 3- Gionosis

Episode 3
Act 1- Battle of Coruscant
Act 2- from the balcony scene in Padme's apartment, to Kashyyk, to Utapau, to Anakin telling Mace that Palpatine is a Sith Lord
Act 3- from Mace and Jedi facing Palpatine onwards

for me I'd choose Act 3 for almost every episode except Episode 4(I'd choose Act 2)

 

The final acts of ESB and ROTS will always be my favorites.

 

My personal favourites:

- TPM Act 1&2
- ROTS Act 3
- ESB Act 1&2

 

Thanks for the thoughts!! I kinda like the idea of Prologue's for TPM, AOTC and ROTS. I still feel like it's more difficult to break these down into distinct acts.....

Well, to keep this going, one of my honorable mentions would be the first Act in ROTJ.....since I was a wee lad I always loved the Jabba's palace sequence...

 

I would say this with my favourites bold.

TPM
1. Act: untill the Queen and the Jedi leave Naboo
2. Act: until the Queen and the Jedi leave Coruscant
3. Act: until End Credits

AOTC
1. Act: until Anakin/Padmé leave Coruscant
2. Act: until Padmé/Anakin are arrested on Geonosis
3. Act: until End Credits

ROTS
1. Act: until Anakin's first "vision" is shown
2. Act: until Padmé reaches Mustafar
3. Act: until End Credits

ANH
1. Act: until Luke, Han and Ben leave Tatooine
2. Act: until they leave the Death Star
3. Act: until End Credits

TESB
1. Act: until they leave Hoth
2. Act: until Luke heads towards Bespin
3. Act: until End Credits

ROTJ
1. Act: until they leave Tatooine
2. Act: not sure, probably until Luke joins the Emperor
3. Act: until End Credtis

 

ESB-Carbon Freezing Chamber Scene to end. Best Act ever.
ROTS-Battle of Coruscant, Palpatine revealed and Order 66 and then the Duels
ANH-Death Star and Final Battle (though Mos Eisley and the beginning fight are fun.
ROTJ-Battle of Endor
Not sure about TPM or AOTC.
