this is not very fair - TFA has had one movie.

What's really impressive is how great these characters are after only one movie though - they did such an amazing job with the characters in this movie.

I absolutely LOVE Rey, Kylo, Finn and Poe

My two new favorites are Kylo and Rey and then Finn..... And BB8 and Poe... Wow like I said , great characters

Tier 1:
Luke Skywalker- I love his journey from a naive farm boy to a Jedi knight. I love how much he fails and how much he overcomes. He is the epitome of resilience. His ability to redeem his father through love is Lucas's crowning achievement. I really look forward to seeing the next stage of his journey.

Obi Wan Kenobi- The only character that shines in the PT, OT and Clone Wars cartoons and thus, the character with the most complete life arc in the entire saga. I love how we see the core elements of his personality (wisdom, resourcefulness, wit, and rebelliousness) manifesting in different forms throughout his life.

Ashoka Tano- I love her development from an annoying and naive youngling into a gritty, resourceful, and earnest padawan and now, into a mature, chiseled rebel leader. She's always been driven by a purity of heart and driving sense of justice that I admire. I really wish she would be in a live action film one of these days.

Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker: This one's the toughest, as this single character contains some of the highest highs and lowest lows of the saga. Here's my thoughts: In the PT Anakin pretty much sucks. He's awful in TPM and AOTC and mediocre at best in ROTS. However, I love the version of Anakin we see in TCW series. That character has the mixture of strength, confidence, love, and devotion that I could see ultimately being manipulated into Vader. As for once he turns to the dark side, Vader is simply the best villain ever. He's strong, cold, witty, intelligent, unforgiving, and relentless. However, he's also complex, as he's clearly enslaved to his own fear and anger. His turn back to the light is one of the greatest movies in film history.

Kylo Ren: I just love all the dimensions of this character. He has the ability to have unparalleled control of his environment. His cold tone of speech, his power in the force, his bodily movements, everything conveys a total control. Yet, beneath it is a chaotic whirlwind that bursts forward from time to time. His struggle to stay out of the light is the most compelling concept in TFA and makes him into a compelling character study, as does his fear, which ultimately defeats him in Episode VII. I am very excited to see where his arc takes him.

Tier 2:
Leia: A great, complex character with an amazing arc. What makes Leia so exceptional is her ability to keep her eyes on the cause regardless of what is happening around her. More than anyone else she epitomizes the spirit of the rebellion constantly remains faithful to the cause regardless of personal loss (her freedom, Alderan, Luke, Han, her son). She's also a player and totally works Luke and Han in episodes IV and V.

Han Solo: Another great, complex character with an amazing arc. Funny, cool, sly, witty, and heroic. It's amazing to see him go from a selfish smuggler to a conflicted rebel commander to a damaged father. It's such a real arc that reflects the complexity of each of our journey's through life.

R2D2: He always gets the job done, always figures out a solution and takes no BS from anyone. Yet, he is dedicated and has a huge heart.

Chewbacca: Chewie is just the homie. He's always there providing the key assist and always seems to be expressing the primal feelings of the audience.

Finn: I love his earnestness and naivety. Because of that, he seems to achieve so much more than he should. He constantly seems lost, confused, and out of place, but yet somehow he keeps getting the job done. I look forward to seeing how he grows.

Rey: Very interesting character. Totally self-reliant and so clearly betrayed by others, and yet she has a heart of gold. Her naivety and faith in herself and the force are her saving grace. Like Finn, she seems to contain a faith that everything will work out.

Tier 3:
Yoda: He's phenomenal in the OT, but acts like an incompetent idiot throughout the PT.

Emperor Palpatine: Really badass villain, but is a little one dimensional. He lacks the conflict that makes the other characters so engaging.

Darth Maul: Great villain that was really bolstered by TCW series. Strong, intelligent, sick and cruel.

Boba Fett: Was one of my favorites growing up, but I'm not crazy about where the PT took him. Still one of the most badass looks and personas in the series and one of only two people to speak up to Vader.

Grand Moff Tarkin: Combines the cruelty of a stone cold killer with the grace of royalty.

C3PO: Is annoying, but in a really comical way.

My top 6 has not changed. Though I generally like SW characters, it was really hard for me to think about who 'deserved' the 7-10 spots on my list. I'd say I love the first six and only like the others.

Well, it seems like the top 5 has changed, in an unexpected turn of events, Obi-Wan has made a push for the podium and now has the advantage over Han Solo. Luke has overtaked Vader for the top spot too. Rey seems to have made the 5th place her own, and the awesome rookie is beating such classic characters as Yoda, Leia or Chewie.
