Thanks strilo. I suppose there's some debate about what exactly constitutes a "theme".

Yeah. Something that only occurs once or twice in a film is more a motif or simply non thematic material. I enjoy the music that scores the scene with the moth but I do not call it a theme any more than The Flag Parade is a theme from TPM. It's just great score, not a theme.

Concerning Hobbit is a great piece, accompanying a great scene in the film. "A Wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he ever early. He arrives precisely when he means to." Great line. Gotta like that even old Odo Proudfoot likes Gandalf's fireworks(though his wife didn't seem to). :)

Yeah I thought the film introduced the hobbits better than the book did even.

after seeing the movie six times and listening to the soundtrack countless times, i decided i really enjoyed "A Journey in the Dark" and "The Bridge of Kazad-Dum." my favorite part of "A Journey in the Dark" is when the fellowship walks into the great hall (when Gandalf "risks more light"). it would be hecka cool if that part was a little longer, though...

*makes note to self to get LOTR soundtrack, too*

I love the moment with the moth. Musically, I think it is so startlingly beautiful. In a world full of death and strife there is a perfectly pure boy soprano voice bringing light and hope to Gandalf in his darkest hour.

    What's the "old trilogy"?

I was just looking in the back pages of the Film Music Hall, and I found this thread...

I absolutely love the entire soundtrack for FOTR, so it's hard for me to pick a favorite track. I was especially struck by The Bridge of Khazad Dum because of its drama, The Breaking of the Fellowship for its incredible beauty and sadness, and A Journey in the Dark , because it just moved me, and it was perfect for that part in the movie.

But.....my favorite track of all would have to be Lothlorien . It has a haunting beauty that suits the atmosphere of those woods so well.

Thats what I love about LOTR. So many different themes, not one that overides the others like that Harry Potter crap (sorry Mr. Williams, but its true).

Breaking of the Fellowship is number 1. It takes the fellowship and hobbit themes, mixes them up, and it is SO SAD. (in a good way)

The Bridge Of Khazad Dum is great. Especially the ending (when they are all crying outside)

Lothlorien is truly haunting and nearly frightening.

Concerning Hobbits is a work of genius.

"Bridge of Khazad-Dum" and the Moria track for when I'm in a pumped-up mood; "Breaking of the Fellowship" for when I'm feeling low (Though this does take the #1 spot overall :D ).

    The Moth Theme is neat.

I just love this whole sequence in the film. The chanting chorus, evil horns, driving percussion...

    fits perfectly. :D
