Well, the KOTOR series is a give-in. Although short, Fable was amazing. Obviously Final Fantasy, oh and I gotta represent Pokemon Red/Blue...LOL. Im serious though.

Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow were great games on the Gameboy. Its just sad that Nintendo never used this idea for the N64. Instead we got Pokemon Snap and Pokemon stadium.

Tough desision between KotOR, the Final Fantasy series, and Fable but KotOR to me is a better game. Not just becuase I'm a major fanboy or anything but becuase it was an overall great game. The storyline was great with really cool characters worthy of being called Star Wars not just some of the other rushed Lucas Arts crap. It was completly different from all other Star Wars games. The element of chosing your diolaouge and depending on what you said or did moved the force scale light or dark was a great addition to the rest of the game. The ability to upgrade weapons and character was great. Not to mention it won the 2003 Game of the Year award.

I'd have to say KOTOR 1 and 2 followed by BG2.

I noticed that there isn't much lvoe for FABLE out there. I know that the game suffered from way too much hype and Big Blue Box and Lionhead Studios created unrealistic expectations for themselves (see Peter Molyneux comments about the game changing the RPG genre.) However, I recentlyl picked it up and really enjoyed the game. It wasn't KOTOR but it was hell of a lot of fun. I would definately recommend it to anyone who likes RPG's

What does everyone think about The Legend of Dragoon?

I just started playing it yesterday and it seems to have good graphics for a PS one game.

I am still surprised that nobody has yet to mention any of the Zelda games. I know they aren't traditional RPGs because they are action adventure RPGs, but so is Fable.

    Lunar: Silver Star
    Phantasy Star 2
    Skies of Arcadia
Final Fantasy X, 4 an 6 (three way tie)

I never liked Xenogears. I mean... I like RPG's to be complete. And Xenogears, I admit started off strong... but due to known issues, development got rushed and we got the infamous 4rd disc. But on the plus side... great gameplay.

Neverwinter Nights, but only with Hordes of the Underdark. Best Add-on ever!
    Baldur's Gate II
    Final Fantasy VI
    Final Fantasy VIII
    Grandia II
    Chrono Trigger
    Breath of Fire IV
    Gothic I & II
    Tales of Symphonia
And since I'm a Star Wars nut, Knights of the Old Republic I & II

EDIT: Oh, wait, does Secret of Mana count? I think it's more of an action-adventure but with a certain RPG touch.BTW is SoM Seiken Densetsu II? Or is it III? I always confuse these things...

EDIT2: Man, so many choices. What about Vagrant Story? And I almost forgot Star Ocean II and Phantasy Star IV. This thread reminds me that I really want my Genesis back from my little brother...

Please are we really dicusing this, becuase we all know Prates of the Carribean is the greatest Role-Playing Game ever, lol

Really I think KotOR was probably the best RPG becuase of the diversity of the game and how many things you could do and becuase of the replayability value.

I reckon BG2 owns KotOR in those regards.

BG2 is the one I've played the most...favourite, I don't know. Possibly FFX, or Planescape. But probably BG2.

Anachronox is another great RPG. I love its sense of humor and original sci-fi setting.

I'd have to say Planescape:Torment followed by the Baldur's Gate series. The stories are great and they really pull you in plus gameplay was good. I've played both multiple times as different classes and with differing outlooks, the story really does change every time.

Plus Planescape:Torment asked some really deep questions... "What can change the nature of a man?"
