Taking the Star Wars OT out of the equation, I'll say Batman '89. Not just the film--perhaps not even the film--but the pop culture earthquake that followed. There have been bigger hits in the years that followed, but I don't think any Summer movie since has matched or surpassed its complete and total pop cultural saturation.

Oh, summer movies? When I was growing up we used to dream of going to summer movies - no, what we'd do is go down to outside of the local pub and watch the drunks stagger out. Our fingers had to suffice for a crude facsimile of the total control of the movie world a director exerts via their camera lens. Anyway the point is we'd go down to these pubs, watch the drunks stagger out, and then we'd throw rocks at them. If we were particularly well behaved and sure of aim, we got to keep the bloody rocks and hide them away until the usual Fourth of July celebration.

    Ah, memories.

Throwing rocks at drunks? LUXURY. When I were a child, me and my 7 brothers and 8 sisters couldn't afford to go movies. Me father would come home from work every night and string us up behind a sheet in front of a bonfire, and we'd have to amuse him by improvising human-shadow-puppet shows as our silhouettes flickered across the sheet.

I think my best summer movie memory as a kid has to be the Star Wars trilogy. I bought the trilogy on tape with my allowances from a video store nearby and it was the first time I was to see what I up to then only knew from pop culture references.

A close second place. We watched this every summer after it came out in '85.

For me, it was the time I lived in Seward, Nebraska as a kid. Every Saturday we would go to the matinee for a dollar. It was the Tivoli theatre with only one screen but it was awesome. So many movies over a span of three years.

The best memory for me was going to see the movie Lucas on Fourth of July for free. The entire theatre was packed with kids and no parents. Hey it was the eighties and we all walked to the theatre.

Masters of the Universe, and the original and still the best transformer movie.

The original cartoon movie. When cartoon movies were becoming popular.

Its sad how most of the eighties cartoon movies only happened because we didn't have cgi that was good yet. Now I kinda miss the simple effects. You had to tell an actual story.
