...and shortly after I say I don't expect such to happen, Favre asks for his release from the Packers. Hmm...

    Seems Favre disagrees with you.

Absolutely terrible. Anybody see the interview with him on FOX?

I don't know how anybody, even Packers fans, can still like him now.

Well, its official... and right before the game is released (hits stores Tuesday), Favre is officially a Jet. Too late for EA Sports to do much but offer an alternate cover online (at least, I think I've heard they're doing this).

Wonder if Favre is even in the game at all...

I really don't see the point in offering an alternate cover at all. The cover was made when Brett was in retirement, and I think it is paying respect to his career as a quarterback with Green Bay. It does not need to have him in a Jets jersey in that regard.

The roster updates are a normal practice for most players. There's really nothing new there.

Ah, I forgot they do those roster updates. I play the college game, for which I've never seen an update.

I haven't played NCAA in a little while, but it used to be that they could not even put player's real names in it. I know that there were fan updates that you could download(someone actually took the time to put people's names in on +200 teams?), but I never bothered with them.

No, they can't put real names in them - has to do with NCAA policy and all that. I usually put in the names manually for South Carolina's players, and maybe a hand full of other big name players, but thats it.

2K sports kinda gets around such for basketball by dumping all first names and all last names into 2 big databases, so the names are there and easy to put in, but theres no tie between name and player.

He was in there from the start as a hidden 99-ranked Free Agent you had to unlock.

I suppose that makes sense. Though I never pay attention to unlockable stuff personally.

They were planning on giving him an actual 94/95 rating though, if he decided to come back (at least that's what I heard), so that's probably what will happen in the roster update.

After only his second practice, apparently favre is tearing it up already. I guess the highlight of the practice today was a play that was very similar to the play that favre used to jennings to win in OT against denver last season. He threw a 75 yard touchdown pass, to Coles I think, that was in the air for 60-65 yards and hit him in stride with tight coverage.

Wait a minute, so you have to unlock Favre? I thought he was a free agent in the game.

I'm sure there will be a code to get him though if he is an unlockable.

He will be on the Jet's roster in the update that EA is going to publish.

Guess I'm going to need to get a Max Drive because I still got good ol' PS2.

No Madden curse yet! Unless the curse was passed on to Aaron Rodgers...

    no madden curse?

Destroying his image in the off-season wasn't curse enough?

His legacy as a Packer took a severe drop ever since that last photo of him in a Packer uniform was put on the cover of Madden.

The curse is alive and well.

I dunno, Favre is still pretty popular here in the valley.

This is my current desktop picture:

i'm not a packers fan or a favre fan, but i don't think he destroyed his image at all. even if he completely tanked this year i still wouldn't feel that way. just like i don't think jordan destroyed his image by coming back and playing for the wizards (or montana with the chiefs, rice with the seahawks, mays with the mets, etc.). he just realized he retired too soon and that he still wanted to play. sure it wasn't handled very well by either side, but there's nothing wrong with a guy who loves the game and wants to keep playing.

The image problem is that he yanked the team around for a good five years, finally retired, and then tried to screw around with Rodgers. It's not so much that he came back as how he left and how he tried to weasel his back in. Kinda like Pat Riley.

i always thought the curse had to do with injury rather than stats. cause, you know... young did get hurt last year. that's why collins got some playing time, and moved the offense better. only person to avoid in the year of the cover was eddie george, and then he screwed up his toe and his career went in the tank.
