What an amazing year for Nadal. Glad to see him reach a new peak in his career.

Federer and Paul Annacone have split after 3 years. Don't think it's representative of either of them, they're obviously both legends, but hopefully a new coach can help give Roger one last good run.

Tomic is in the final at Sydney against DelPo, and playing very well- that's a tough first match for Nadal.

yeah, plus murray, tsonga, delpo, and fed all in his half. possible third round match with monfils, who just took him to 3 sets and a possible 4th round match with a resurgent hewitt (just beat fed in the brisbane final). kind of ridiculous.

Ugh. ESPN and everywhere is headlining that Venus was "upset" today- she was not. She was unseeded, and lost to the 22nd seeded Makarova.

Unfortunately, no coverage or glory for the young lady who upset sixth seeded Kvitova, who was in the semis here a few years back.

Haas done on the men's side, retired.

Some big upsets in the women's bracket with both Kvitova and Errani going down in the first round.

    Also Isner is out

DelPo is out of the tournament, after winning Sydney. Smaller upset, but Verdasco is gone too.

    Interesting results from today:

Ivanovic playing well, eliminates Sam Stosur- Gasquet gone after four sets with Tommy Robredo. Revving up for the first weekend of the tournament, when I can actually watch.

At least now the carnage is tennis-related and not heat-related!

The two young Aussies looked good, really annoyed that Tomic and Kokkinakis both ran into Nadal.

I've never seen anyone do that to Serena's serve. Ana was magnificent.

Nadal being challenged by Nishikori right now. Nishikori was up 4-2 in the second set, but Nadal came back to win the set and is up two sets right now.

Nishakori put in a brilliant effort!

Murray dropped a set and still looks a bit unconvincing in his post-op recovery

I agree. The match illustrated how skilled some of the comparatively lesser lights are.

    Cibulkova mi amor! [face_love]

Anyway, I'm hoping for wins by Nadal, Federer, Ferrer and Wawrinka in the men's quarters, and Ivanovic, Li, Cibulkova and Azarenka in the women's quarters

Well you got some of them. Epic performance by Wawrinka, was sure he would lose in the 5th.
