the 1991 us open is still one of my favorite tennis memories. if fed is still making deep runs at 39 i won't be shocked.

Roger Federer won his fifth Wimbledon title in a row in 2007. Venus Williams won her fifth Wimbledon title in 2008.

They play for their eighth and sixth singles titles at Wimbledon this second weekend in July of 2017.

They might be playing with the roof closed today - there have been some showers moving through the London area this morning.

Venus-Muguruza match living up to expectations so far. Garbine plays some fantastic tennis in game 12 to win the first set.

Yeah, BBC commentators just said it looks like Venus is fading some.

I'm happy for Muguruza. She's going to break the Ana Ivanovic curse.

And Muguruza has it! I feel sorry for Venus though.

Muguruza was absolutely dominant for the entire fortnight. One of the more impressive runs I've seen through a major tournament.

She's won majors on clay and grass, which puts her in elite company at a young age.

    Very one sided final this.

Cilic started well but now has now chance

Federer to win in three sets now or even by Cilic withdrawal looking at this

45 minutes later he still looks fantastic

    But he isn't playing well.

Shame though, he seems really hurt.

Looks like Cilic is receiving treatment for a foot problem.

Edit - the weather probably isn't helping them. It isn't hot but it is very muggy with very little breeze. I know I was sweating just bringing my groceries in from the car this morning and there was more of a breeze then.

Poor guy. Hope he's ok. It looked like he was executing a plan that could beat Federer. Then he lost the set anyway and the whole thing unraveled.

Gotta be honest, I thought tom was wrong - no way was this going to be a straight set beatdown.

If this doesn't end soon they'll have to take a break to put the roof on - there's incoming showers in the London area.

He's won it. Looks like they just managed to beat the showers.

Who would have believed ten years ago that Federer's most dominant run at Wimbledon would come at age 35?

Roger and Rafa's "home" tournaments were mostly just playgrounds for them this year.

Props to Cilic for staying out there, even though he understood that he was going to lose. It takes real character to face an opponent when you have almost no chance of victory and have an easy bailout in reach.

Rafa upset by unseeded Denis Shapovalov in Montreal last night. Fed's still in the bracket, and it would have also given Rafa a chance to get close to displace Murray at #1. Either Fed or Nadal will likely do so next week in Cincinatti.

I have to say that Federer's Grand Slam success this year has been the biggest buzz in sports for me that I can recall for years. Such a great guy and great champion. The way he's hung in there despite being written off years ago by many has been magnificent.

Would love to see a Nadal run in New York, but that doesn't seem likely to happen. When he won it last in 2013, he rampaged through the hardcourt season, winning every tournament he entered leading up and then through the US Open.
