Weee, update. I found a unfinished drawing of Leia today and decided to finish it. Doesn't look quite like her and I screwed up on her mouth, but anyway.

Her mouth is really a bit strange, but I like it. Good light effect you have on her hair. (I wish I could do that)

Finally got in to have a look at your Leia sketch--great job! Yes, the likeness to Carrie Fisher lacks a bit, but then good likenesses are tough for most of us (well...me anyway, lol! ;) ). A favorite technique of mine for getting a decent likeness is the "mirror comparison," where you hold up your drawing and the reference photo in the mirror as you progress, comparing them that way (it can help you see the little errors that take a way from the likeness)--yet another is to turn both the drawing and the reference photo upside down and/or sideways and do the same sort of comparison--again, allowing the eye to see things that may be different more clearly. Try using some of these and they may be helpful in getting better likenesses (which are always hard for me, so I use these techniques almost every time I'm working from a "known face!"). In truth, though--who else could this be but Leia, with that hair? It's an unmistakable feature, and really marks this as our favorite Princess! You've handled the shading on the hair beautifully--a few more highlights on her face would help shape it a touch more, though (a kneaded eraser works great for just this task). All in all, a very nice portrait! Looking forward to more!

Chilla: =) Thanks. I was actually surprised at the relative easiness when I drew the hair. Just followed the advice people here gave me and improvised a little. -compares the first Anakin portrait with Leia-portrait- Heh, I love you guys...

FalconFan Thank you. I usually try to do the mirror-comparision, but my sofa in my room is such a cozy place that I'm often to lazy to get up and go to a mirror, lol. We don't have any small mirrors around here. Thanks for the other advice =).

And well, here's a non-starwarspic. I've spent so much time with it, and my hand hurts, that I really want to show it to people. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/30392174/

    :eek::oops:

Oh, I just hate when I've missed so much in someone's thread!! Three pieces in here that I managed to miss commenting on until now...naughty, bad Falcon!! [face_sheepish]

ANYway...I absolutely love "Fnurks in the Forest!" What a great little scene, with the close-up view of the forest floor, and the funny little fellows with their little bowler hats on in among the "towering" mushrooms! Interesting comment from you about "flipping" your work in PS to check for errors/composition--something I don't think I've done too before, but may start to do--it sounds like a useful technique! The gnarled tree trunk there almost reminds me of some of the cypress-looking trees from Dagobah--this is just a great piece, and I can certainly see why it made your hand hurt--lots of pencil work here!

The Grievous "eyes" is positively chilling! (I think someone made a similar comment in your DA account!) His organic and very-alien eyes, peering out from indside that metal death-mask always gave me the willies, and this piece just intensifies that effect--BRRRR!! Beautiful shading and light on this one, too--great work!

Very interesting cyborg-creature, too--is this a creation for a story? I rather got that impression from your comments on it--that it figured into a larger narrative for someone/something. It definitely resembles a huge metallic iguana, with the long tail and the "frills" around the head (...frilled lizard...?)--not something I would relish encountering! It's a great concept!

Please accept my apologies for not commenting earlier on your work (I still don't know how I missed all these updates... *scratches head* :( )--these are all wonderful, but I just really like the "Fnurks!" I must be in a fanciful mood today! :p

    A "properly abashed" FF

Hey FF, thanks for the comment, and no need for apologizing; you're the one commenting most on my work after all.

Thanks for liking the fnurks [:D] Those strange little chaps that has become a insidejoke among me and some of my friends. I colored it too a while later: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/31107002/

Yeah, the flipping in PS can be useful sometimes. I remember flipping a drawing once and then saw that the majority of all the lines were going diagonally (sp?) down to the left; the natural movement of my hand I suppose. So flipped it looked like the drawing was being sucked into a invisible black hole in one of the corners, and my first thought, being lefthanded, was "oh, god! Hope this isn't how this drawing looks like to righthanded people!" Well, I suppose they don't, but it was good to know.

About Grievous: Thanks :D I've wanted to draw that close-up for a long time. And thanks for reminding me of the kneaded erasers when you commented on the Leia-pic btw. I had forgotten that I had one, lol. I don't think I could have done the contrasts without it.

Yep, the cyborg belongs in a story, or two actually; one in which they only show up in one or two scenes so far, and one serving as a story about why they are how they are. None of these stories have been written though. Inspired from the movie Ravenous and a article I read once about how certain kinds of monkeys (mandrils I think it was) will go nuts if they taste meat and can't get enough of it. I'm glad you liked it :D

Thanks for all the comments, I really appreciate it.

Oh, I love the lightsaber design, Fenrisulven! =D= Very, very nice, with all the scrollwork and detailing! I could see this belonging to a female Jedi, one that took great care to create the elaborate patterns, perhaps reminiscent of her homeworld or family... Just wonderful! And the little "Reaper" is great too (I can't draw cartoons for anything--but I love them so! :D )--I'm unfamiliar with the cartoon that features him, but I really like the look of him! Very nice work!

Star Angel: Thanks a lot! The Yoda-drawings might be the ones I spent the most time with, so I'm really glad you liked them.

FalconFan: Thanks again FF :) I thought the lightsaber might have been a little too elaborate for a jedi, so thanks for providing a good plausible explonation, heh :D. When I looked at the finished drawing I just had a inner image of a padawan who proudly shows her master the lightsaber who's like: "Oh, that's wonderful dear!" while thinking something like: "Oh, she's going to be such a pain when she loses it"

Heh, I can hardly draw cartoons either. Took me pretty long time doing that one. The cartoon with him has rather special humour, but I really like it.

Thanks to the artclass thread I finally made another Star Wars-drawing. This time of Leia: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/36135196/

Here's also a quick drawing of Boba Fett I did as a birthdaypresent: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/35577727/

Nice work, Fenrisulven! I can't believe I hadn't found this thread sooner!

I must say that the lightsaber design is beautiful! Such detail! And the little cartoon drawing of Grim is good too! I really liked Grievious' eyes! It was wonderful!
Nice job with the clothes on the Leia piece! Clothes are a rather nasty thing for me to draw so I marvel at your work! The likeness lacks a little, but no big deal. The birthday Boba Fett is great! It made me smile thats for sure! I could not stare at the "Eyes of Madness" for very long. I found it creepy! So many eyes! Nice work! I really liked the "Dragon"- dragons are awesome! And I noticed you did this in pen! Great job- I couldn't imagine working without an eraser! I look forward to seeing more! :)

Hey Fenrisulven--great update here! I'm really liking all of it, too!

Princess Leia ("White Dress-Standing") looks great--you really got the folds of the dress nicely defined! And lol about omitting some of the details--me too! I thought about "going headless" myself, but ended up putting it on anyway (I left the rifle only outlined in my "hand-in" piece!)...something about the old "Sleepy Hollow" story that sort of haunted me, at the thought... ;)

The Boba Fett birthday greeting is wonderful, and I'm sure the recipient was delighted with this! Excellent rendering of that battered-up helmet!

I loved the atmosphere in "We're SO Dead!" Sheesh--who wouldn't be thinking that?! Excellent golems, btw--you say their design came to you in a dream...? I don't think I could ever sleep again after a dream like that! ;) Very nice work on the armor and helmets--and on the expressions of your human characters!

"Eyes of Madness" is a superb piece, and I agree with all the comments on your DA account, praising the details in this one. The eyes all look very real, with accurate shine and shading for depth--the composition is also very well done, leading the eye through the piece. Surrealistic, indeed--a marvelous drawing! =D=

And the dragon is gorgeous! I love dragons (thus, my affection for Boga! lol!), and this is a wonderful representation. The detailing on the scales and neck ridges is amazing--it'd be really cool to see this one colored, too. Beautiful!

What a rich and varied update--a little of everything, and it's all wonderful! Keep up the great work--it's always fun to see new stuff from you!

PadawanDi: Thanks! :D Hehe, I've noticed that many people find Eyes of Madness to be pretty creepy. I suppose I should find it creepy that I draw things like that when I have no idea what to draw and just draw the first thing that comes to mind...

Ah yes, the problem with drawing with a pen. It was really frustrating; there were a lot of things I wanted to change, and many mistakes I wanted to erase, while drawing it. Still, drawing with pen has its charm.

    Thanks again!

Lobot Omy: Thank you thank you :) I really appreciate your comment about Fnurks in the Forest since that's the most advanced original (original as in no referencepic, pre-existing characters etc) drawing I've done.

FalconFan: Ah, the lovely FF :) Thank you for the comments!

[face_laugh] I never thought about Sleepy Hollow until you said it. Now I can never draw headless pieces of clothes again without thinking about that. Although mostly when I do clothingdesign the head is there, but it's just an empty white area with two lines in it. Kinda creepy that too.

Thanks for liking We're SO dead. As I said to Lobot Omy it's always nice when people like a drawing that is entirely yours and not based on someone elses work/characters/story etc etc. That's from the same story as the cyborg I drew is in btw. Yup, design from a dream. You have no idea how bizarre my dreams can be. Everything from flesh-eating toasters that gets crushed by hockeyplayers to my 84 years old neighbour being the dreaded tyrant of an underground complex. I'm often confused when I wake up, lol.

Ah, Eyes of Madness... Thanks for the comment. The kind of drawing that lies around for weeks and you're never able to finish since there's so much details to do. Took me ages even though it's drawn on a A5-paper. And now I have another drawing like that lying half finished in my room. Not surrealistic though, it's more like fnurks in the forest.

Great that you liked the dragon :D I love dragons too, and it's my favorite thing to draw when doodling. Hmm, the thought of coloring it never occured to me. Too messy drawing I though, but maybe I'll give it a shot.

Thanks everyone for the great comments!

    Ooooo!!

Awesome update, Fenrisulven! The "Jedi Jawa" and all the little references you have on him is outstanding!! And yes-yes-yes!! Do the "Jawa Java" idea!! I think that'd be too fun! What a great rendering of Beast Boy, too--an excellent likeness to the cartoon (and I think you do cartoony-type work very well, btw!)! Like "Fnurks in the Forest," I just love "House in the Forest:" I sat and looked at this for a long, long time, taking in all the fabulous elements--the little vase of flowers on the porchpost, the guitar/lyre leaning against the wall, the pretty little globe-lamp above the door--all the mushrooms and detailing on the forest floor...fantastic! No wonder it took so long to finish, but it's just wonderful--give yourself a pat on the back for having the patience and perserverence to finish this piece! "Eye of Madness" is positively chilling!! =D= Most excellent detailing and shading--it's like we can feel his harsh breath on our own faces, it's so powerful! Loving the hair hanging down, and all the fine veining in the cornea--it looks so real: like a real "mad person!" Outstanding! =D= Great work!

AG88: Thanks a lot! Hmm, I just realized that I tend to draw creepy eyes pretty often. I wonder why that is [face_thinking]

FalconFan: Thank you FF! And thanks for always being so encouraging. I will try to do the Jawa Java-pic; we'll see if I'll be able to finish it.

Aaw, thanks a ton for taking a good look on House in the Forest. I was a bit worried that it would be very hard to actually see the details, so it feels great that you noticed so much there. I'm trying to color this one, but that might take a while since I'm not very good at concentrating when I'm sitting at the computer. Oh, and the instrument is supposed to be a lute btw; it looks a bit strange for a lute though...

Thanks for liking Eye of Madness too! As I said to AG88 it seems like have a tendenzy to draw strange eyes... and forests... Strange...

Again, thanks for all the encouragement.

Oh my, has it been over two months since I drew Jedi Jawa? How strange, university sure consumes your time in a hurry. Anyway, I finished a design for a lightsaberhilt today that has been lying around for a while. I've begun on a few other SW-drawing but not finished any. I wonder how many drawings I've begun on and never finished.

So, here's the lightsaber. I tried to avoid straight lines as much as possible to make it have a more smooth appearance. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/43318956/

    And as usual, some non-SW:

Beast of Despair: A strange thing that started out as an idea of making a really twisted version of a Balrog or the Jabberwocky, but ended up being something else: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/41752516/

    Mufasa's Death: a Lion King-drawing I made. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/42776916/

    A Dolpin I made for my girlfriend's birthday: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/42859415/

And that's all folks. Hopefully I'll be able to finish some of those SW-drawings I began with some time soon.

**rubs hands together and dives into update!**

    :D

First, that lightsaber hilt...WOW!! How cool-looking is that? I actually love the sort of ergonomic shape to it, with that curve that would settle comfortably into the palm of the wielder--the sweeping curves are really quite beautiful! I could very much see this one belonging to one of the Barabel Jedi: the organic shape and look of it would seem very appropriate to a natural hunter species like the Barabels... The shading and realism of it are gorgeous--it has such a wonderful volume to it, it's almost like a photograph...just beautiful!

Beast of Despair is amazing in the tonal quality and the detailing (but then, that's your gift, isn't it? Details? **is jealous** ;) )... I agree that the image is a bit disturbing, as the creature, with all its fierceness and apparent malevolence, looks almost anguished: the folded-over body give it a weary, defeated appearance... I think I agree with one of your DA replies that I feel almost sorry for it, somehow...

    Mufasa's Death
made me all teary! :_| I blubbered like a baby at this part in the movie, lol! You've perfectly replicated the Disney style here--wonderful work! Are you going to color this one? Just curious.

And a great-big OMG over that gorgeous dolphin!! =D= I absolutely adore cetaceans of all kinds (your girlfriend and I would be great friends!), and this is just the quintessential portrayal of this playful predator of the oceans: The slickness and smoothness of the body are just perfect (how in the world did you get that "wet look" down sooooo well...?)!! The curve of its body, the beautiful glitter in that intelligent eye and all the wonderful splashing of the water make this just amazing!! =D==D= Once again, your ability to achieve gorgeous contrasts leaves my jaw hanging.... I really, really love this one! =D= again!! :p

And as far as awesome pencil work at DA...? I think your own gallery certainly counts here, my friend! :) These are all just gorgeous, and I'm so grateful I got to see them before I signed off for a week (going out of town...no internet at Mom's...)! Keep up the fabulous work, Fenrisulven, and thanks for putting these up!

    FF
