Well, it seems the North West have their own curry night idea, but as a founding member of the FFUK: North curry crew, I believe us in the North East should counter them with one of our own.

Now, there are several options for curry venues. Since we're spread out over the North East expecting everyone to travel to one venue would be harsh, so I can propose several venues.

First, there's Khan's in Middlesbrough, which isn't a bad place, and might let us get away with student price curries. In any case, they're pretty cheap, and the food isn't bad.

There is also two Spice Island restaurants, one in Shildon, the other in Barnard Castle. Both do excellent food, but could be slightly pricey.

Also, there's the place in Newcastle which does the "Curry from Hell," but I can't remember the name of which at the moment :p

So, feel free to chip in with possible venue ideas and to tell me whether or not your CR had a good idea (even if it was ripped off from the North West :p)

Aye, well, it's less about the curry and more about the socialising, but it'd be cool to try and turn you into a curry-monster :p And it's the more the merrier with people who come as far as I'm concerned. New members and partners of members are always welcome.

Ah, a good sport, that's what I like to see. Would you be only up for eating in Newcastle restaurants, or are you able to travel down to other locations depending on which random location we choose to try out?

Lol, perhaps this should be FFUK: North Curry House Tour :p

Well, we're only in the planning stages of this at the moment, but this is hopefully going to be a regular thing on a monthly basis, so hopefully we can all manage to make our curry meets, but if some members miss out they can always join us the next month.

Well, Nige, I think it would depend on the restaurant venue. There are some curry places that only seem to open on an evening. I can scout around for lunchtime-serving curry houses, though.

Well, we're all Northerners here. Hopefully one day we can have one massive FFUK: North curry night, with the two dozen or so members here all in attendance. [face_praying]

Sounds like a good idea. I'm always up for a curry....as long as it's not too hot- I'm a bit girly when it comes to curry!

I think I know which place does the 'curry from hell'- it's near Central Station.

There's a nice place called Rasa down the Quayside which does S Indian food and is a little different to your typical curry:

DiscipleOT- if travelling to places such as Darlo/Midds is a problem for you and you live in the Newcastle area, I can always collect you from a Metro station if I go in the car???

DiscipleOT: No probs- seems daft for people to miss out if there's other means of transport available
    :)

Ooh, just thought of another one- the 'curry train' to Corbridge. You meet the waiters at Central Station and they take your order whilst your on the train to the restaurant. I went there for a Xmas meal once at it's certainly a different way to do it! They have a restaurant in Ncle too:

    http://www.valleyrestaurants.co.uk/

So, Mr CR, when should we have our first curry meet...December perhaps?

Yes, December would be a good time. We've got 2 (possibly 3) meets this month, but nothing organised for December. All we need is people to sign up, and a chosen venue for the night, (and obviously sort out a date and time for it too).

And thanks for those restaurant links, suzi, I believe I've been past the one in Jesmond last year when my ex lived there. Always wanted to go in, but never got the chance.

    This went quiet, quick :p

Well, suppose we can leave this topic open for a bit. Curry nights can be discussed more in depth at GMEX and the marathon meet later this month.

Right guys, we had our first curry night in Newcastle last month, so it's time to start thinking about a January night.

    Any suggestions?

I'm free any night except the 12th...and don't forget if it's in the Newcastle area, there's space at my place to crash.

Well, back in Manchester (if memory serves correctly) Ogli suggested a curry night in his hometown of Richmond.

'Course, we need the man himself here to let us know if he wants it this week.
