Film Alfresco is a unique 'picnic style' open air cinema. Classic films are shown against a backdrop of magnificent, historic buildings, creating an almost live theatrical experience where audience participation includes applause for favourite scenes and sing-alongs.

This year '2001: A Space Odyssey', 'Meet Me in St Louis' and 'E.T' will be screened on the iconic East Front of York Minster. The beautiful Georgian Quad of York St John University will host 'Eternal Sunshine . . ' and Buster Keaton's 'The General', with piano accompaniment.

Short science-based films including 'Brilliant Noise' by Semiconductor & 'Liquid Crystals' will precede the main feature each evening.

All Tickets are £5 and available in advance from City Screen York or at the venue on the night.
Alfresco patrons are reminded to dress appropriately, bearing in mind that September evenings can be chilly.
Food and drink will be available for purchase at both venues.

Film Alfresco 2007, from 10 to 15 September, has been arranged with a science theme to link the event to the BA Science Festival, in York during the same period. Film Alfresco is arranged by York Film Trust in association with York Minster, York St John University, City of York Council, Cambridge Film Festival and Tribeca .

Bring your own rugs and picnics!
