Hello to all the filmmakers out in the wonderful land of TF.n!

Allow me to introduce myself. I am Justin Steranko, a Music Education and Composition Major at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ.

I would like to offer my compositional services out to any of the filmmakers here to compose scores for your films.

What kind of music are you talking about? Do you specialize in anything inparticular? Do you have anything out there that we might be able to listen to?

    For free? Possibly?

That's a pretty big thing to do, I hope you don't get swamped with a lot of people wanting you to do music for their films. Have fun though.

I wouldn't say a lot[i/] of people. Most will just take the fast, easy way out and use existing Star Wars music. But for that exceptional director/cinematographer/editor/caterer who wants his film to have a li'l extra OOMPH, a fresh score would do nicely.

    Cool offer, though. :D

Or, perhaps, Chameleon :p (couldn't resist).

A kind offer indeed! I'd like to hear some samples as well :)

Why would we want to burn our films?

    Ohhh, that kind of scoring.
    :p

I'm not sure about monetary compensation just yet.

As a comp major, I have access to several of the music ensembles here at Rowan to play my compositions

I will write any style of "art" music (this means no pop/rock/metal) but anything from baroque to neo-classical and all inbetween.

Samples....that would require learning the technology end of my trade....lol, usually I just get the stuff recorded and it sits on my minidiscs....i'm sure i could figure out how to use this darn computer for good use!

I will have some up soon though, check back later!

For those that are interested, a couple of things you might want to send me (better to use my e-mail as i'm not here too often anymore) would be:

    • A rough outline of the film, so i know where i'm going with the score
    • Character sketches of those who you feel deserve a "theme" (and yes, if they are force users, expect to hear JW's force theme mixed in there somehow :D )
    • If you would happen to have a file of the actual movie itself, so i could get a sense of timing

EDIT: Oh yeah, just to let you know, this would be my first foray into film scoring...previous to this, i've done mostly strictly symphonic work

Sounds like a great idea. if i ever get around to making a fan film i might take you up on it. i guess youd just want things like, "10 seconds of calm, then 5 secondsof high intensity fighting music" likethat sort of stuff?

Yes, and i would want to see the film, to get a sync perfect....nothing worse than coming up with a score, and then in not syncing up rite

sounds pretty good :) compression doesnt help, but i know its hard finding space for larger files. also, it isnt too SW-like, so its kinda hard to tell if it would work for a SW film, but i would be hopeful.

Somebody get this man a bowl of Fruit(y) Loops.

MIDI is just not the best, and that's about the only downfall here. You're stuff is great, but it's just too......MIDI.

Edit: Just wanted to mention, I'm a huge jazz fan. You play?

the MIDI was just last minute

I plan on having it recorded by the orchestra here if i were to usre it

    so fear not!

As far as the "non SW sound" yeah, i know, i've been listening to a lot of Elfman and Shore, and it shows in those two samples.
