I will laugh when none of these are for Tatooine.

 

Morocco, no wait...Cairo, no wait....Abu Dhabi...no, wait.....

No wonder nobody can get any information-they are all over the friggin' place!

 

I think if I'm not mistaken, it just said a Morocco-like environment, not Morocco itself.

 

Abu Dhabi is absolutely nothing like Tatooine. It's a gigantic city with incredibly strange looking skyscrapers. I bet it's a new planet.

Really. The Empty Quarter is not in Abu Dhabi. I suppose a film crew could drive out there but they specifically say they are shooting in Abu Dhabi.

 

Yeah it's a whopping one hour away from the main city. I've been there and it's not that much different looking from any other city on the coast.

 

Abu Dhabi will be the base, accommodation etc, with filming in the desert - if it is to be used for Tatooine

 

Interesting that THR jumps on the possible Abu Dhabi bandwagon after Jedinews reported it a week ago...

I don't think it will be Tatooine either.

 

I've been there too, quite recently in fact. If it is being used as Tatooine, it's like others have said, they will be using the city for accommodations and then driving into the desert every day. But if that's the case I wonder why they didn't just say they were doing location shoots around the UAE? It seems like they must be looking for something specific in Abu Dhabi.

^ Saying filming in Abu Dhabi is just like saying filming in Tozeur imo.

i.e. nothing was actually filmed in Tozeur but in the surrounds and it's just easier to say

 

Abu Dhabi is the Miami Beach of the Middle East.

 

If Kenobi has a granddaughter as rumored, it's reasonable that maybe her and Luke are both residing on Tatooine. Perhaps she and Luke are aware of each other. It would make sense if she was his apprentice.

 

Maybe Luke has established a Jedi Academy on Tatooine?

Personally I'd prefer a new terrain for Jedi training, but who knows.

 

Maybe Tattoine has become a Holy Land type place with a Jedi Mecca.

 

Maybe Leia and Han got divorced and Han used the sizable settlement to purchase a seedy bar in the space port of Mos Eisley.

Maybe they return to Tatooine for sandwiches. I hear they have some good sandwich places.

Why film Tatooine in a different location to where it was filmed in previous movies?

 

Why not Yuma, Arizona?

 

Costs?

 

Disney owns the franchise now, the budget for these movies must be twice what it was for the PT. If they could afford to film it there before they certainly can now.

Besides, how is UAE cheaper to film in than Tunisia? It's a very wealthy highly developed nation which Tunisia is not.
