It was a brief mention in a Hateful eight interview. I can't remember much, but I think he said that whatever lenses he used on that we're being used by the next SW film.

Now all we need is PJ to direct a film and the Js will rule.

    JJ, RJ and PJ.

I think the "real desert" comment is being taken way out of context by a lot of people. In my opinion.

I know he is using lenses that was used for the chariot scene in Ben-Hur, I wonder if are those ones? Maybe that would mean some scenes being shot in 65mm

When he was interviewing Nolan about Interstellar, he told him he was going to steal ideas and techniques that Nolan used in that film for Star Wars. That gives us one indication on the types of things we'll be seeing in VIII.

Side by side comparison Lucas vs Abrams. Uneven/unfair of course but still kinda interesting and entertaining to see how movie makong has changed.

I don't really see what point that video is even trying to make

That ridiculous video is far less about "VS" and more about which shots from the new trailer homage/rhyme with earlier films from the same series.

Seemed like a pretty innocuous comparison video to me.

I took it as an argument that Abrams' style is not that divergent from Lucas' style. It makes a good case against anyone freaking out that TFA will look too different from the other films.

The video's subject line is very misleading then.

I guess I could see some people being comforted from a video like that. That maybe JJ is paying a lot of attention to the way the previous movies were shot, and isn't going to make something entirely different, but it is kinda a silly comparison.

That's a good take. To me, it just seemed unclear as to the point they were trying to make.

Except Lucas didn't even direct Empire and Jedi.

No, but they were things under his watch and were following his style. I think the point is that it looks like Abrams is copying the style set forth not just in the OT, but with the PT. Certain shots are similar.

Lawd...Claude Rains unraveling his head in The Invisible Man is still the greatest thing ever.

Oh, and I agree with the video guy person.

That's how I read it. That the ST will probably look and feel like the previous 6 films, despite the wailing and gnashing of teeth for one form over the over. And to be honest, that's my overall assesment too.

Not in VII, in the spin-off film currently being shot. Although Rogue One is being shot digitally in 6K, not on 65mm film like The Hateful Eight.

Also IIRC Tarantino said he didn't really like Star Wars that much and he preferred Star Trek.

I can see it. Tarantino does seem to go for those deep, introspective films with philosophical messages.
