    Final Harmony

The wide chamber was cast in dark shadows. Pieces of furniture stood peacefully around the space, their shapes made soft by the dim glow filtering in through the large windows. Every so often streaks of bright light pierced the calmness in the slumbering room as speeders sped by the building. Brief seconds of blinding clarity penetrating the comfort of sleepy contemplation.

The whole apartment was silent. Only the muffled whistles of wind and quiet screeches of traffic from the crossing skylanes close by found their way into the serene sanctuary. The continuous hum of the speeders was so familiar that it had become soothing.

By the wide curving window that completely covered the longest wall of the room, sat a small figure on a divan. Her fragile outline against the Coruscant skyline was a mesmerizing sight, her glimmering brown eyes gazing sleeplessly into the night. Her wavy dark brown hair fell gently over her slightly hunched shoulders, their curled tips resting on her softly heaving chest.

A sudden flash of light shot through the partly covered windows. Reflecting from the mirror on the dresser, it shortly swept over the sleeping chamber quickly revealing its secrets.

Set against the slightly curving wall, right beneath the lightly draped windows was a large bed. A form covered in a bundle of sheets lay on it, steadily moving in tune with the calm pace of deep breathing. It was the harbour of oblivious sleep she had been pulled out of by her thoughts.

Jaina followed the endless rows of speeders flying in orderly patterns over the Galactic City. Their driving lights like bright beacons of the ever-moving life that filled the planet, reaching their web beyond the horizon. In the Force she could feel the pulsating emotions that intertwined with the mundane signs of the world moving on. Shades of joy and love, of grief and fear, filled the dark gaps and formed a brightly burning halo glowing out to the universe.

Leaning her temple against the cool transparisteel of the window, she raised her eyes to search the dark sky. Her gaze quickly found the few stars that shimmered through the faintly dark brown hue covering the planet ? the result of the billions of lights that shone all around her.

The visible stars weren?t many, but they were enough. They were tiny openings to the rest of the galaxy, windows through which she could look at her life. Even the thought of wide empty space around her sent a wave of calm over her whole being, giving her the perspective she needed. The perspective to wonder how much the life she led had changed in just a couple of years since the war.

She was happy, but every now and then the disturbing feeling of emptiness overtook her. It made her long for the past, miss those she had lost. Their memories stayed with her wherever she went, giving her strength when she needed it. At least, them being taken from her hadn?t been completely in vain.

Jaina could still see them clearly in her mind. Still happy, still fighting.

    Still alive.

Both her brothers, like two poles of the universe she once inhabited. They were now one with the Force, finally at peace. She loved them from all her heart, missed their shared jokes and adventures. Often in her meditations, she reached for that space inside that they had filled. She even searched for that bond she had shared with her twin, knowing it wasn?t there anymore yet longing she was wrong. She wasn?t sure if she imagined it, but sometimes she became overwhelmed with an emotion that she was sure wasn?t hers. Like a wave of serenity and closeness, of love from beyond. She clung onto it when it came, opening herself fo

    Ah ha! It's up...

I loved this. But you knew that :p

Your ability to capture the conflicting emotions of impending motherhood was truly inspired...

Your writing gets better everytime I read it.

    Thank you.

I'm glad you liked it. And a Happy Mother's Day to you!

Oh, thank you so much. I wanted to make them a very intimate family and emphasize their bonds, as well as make Jaina's thoughts clear and hopeful.

Thank you. I think those two should have found that happiness by now...

Thank you very much. And yes, they certainly do.

Yep, and I knew it. But it's good to know it still has it's effects... And thank you so much for that praise. [face_blush]

EDIT: Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers on TFN boards!
