I'm afraid I love it too. And the film. Damn fine effort in all respects...zero on the underwhelming scale

EDIT: Maybe you'd like it if you like folk and wear a hemp-flavoured cardigan...

Who doesn't like folk and wear a hemp-flavoured cardigan?

Strange.. I was thinking it was the other way around considering the people who don't like it.

The cinema seemed to be full of... ramblers and this was at 8pm on a Saturday night in the Odeon Leicester Square! :D

I think I expected too much from it.

I'm not saying it was bad, really I'm not. I thought it was good.

However, I really, really can't understand all the 'hoo haa' about it.

they're just tourists. Lord of the Rings is a good film with better acting by one person than the whole cast of TPM. The pod race was good, in TPM and so was the final duel, the rest was key rap. I would wipe my arse with the script of TPM but my arse deserves better.

So, the best defence of LotR is to bash TPM, huh? Interesting... :p

Who says it needs defending? In my opinion it speaks for itself. Those who don't like it are perfectly entitled to their opinions, but I just don't listen to them :p

And to be honest, whilst I do really enjoy Phantom Menace.. it is poor! All the arguments leveled at LOTR can also be made towards TPM. It looks good, but I left the cinema underwhelmed

well, I wouldn't listen to me. It seems like I'm the only one in the whole world who was bored by the pod race.

No, my best defence of LOTR is "I really, really enjoyed LOTR".

DS started harping on a TPM tip.

"Lucas dragged out scenes just to show off special effects" - OAC

    And Jackson DIDN'T?

    LMAO!

Well funnily enough, the one thing I liked most about LOTR (and which I've kept saying to people since I saw it) was I thought the FX were really used well as an aid to telling the story and/or setting the scene. I don't really have a veiw one way or the other about TPMs FX in this respect.

LOTR was shortened. TPM could have told the same story with 1 hour cut out of it.

I'm a bigger Star Wars fan than LOTR, but I gotta admit it, FOTR is a great film and TPM is she-ite.

I enjoyed LOTR, but it'll never be as good as the book. The first time I saw it, I was thinking "why did they leave X out and put Y in" all the way through. It took a second showing for mne to just sit back and watch it.

After an hour. It was "Oh look, another very long establish shot with tiny figures walking around. Oh, let's show it from this angle now, and how about this one"
IMO. I just can't see how else you're gonna drag what I consider a very flimsy non-story into 3 hours

// crowd goes mad...roses land on stage (and knickers)

    Never a truer word said.

Though obviously I can't speak for your arse.

I enjoyed LOTR but I constantly see quotes in reviews and stuf.

'5 stars!' 'Best film ever' 'better than star wars'

um, no, I don't think so.

I know it sounds like I'm bashing LOTR but I'm not. I just don't think it's fantastic is all.

and please, don't turn this thread into a LOTR vs SW thread. The comparission is pointless.

Not Lebowski... I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.
